taking a statin, albeit a less potent one "

-Statin have a component from Red rice Yeast . It is the way around :-). Red

Rice yeast is not a new fad drug :-)and been used in China for 1000 s of years .

Red rice yeast contain naturally : Monacolin K as in Lovastrin but also amino

acids, isoflavons and sterols, This is why Merks manage to get rid of Cholestin3

( a red rice yeast product ) from the market.

All this behind the FDA closed doors.

When people where taking the original red rice yeast they where taking some of

the component of a statin without the dangerous side effects of it.

Also you wrote : " albeit a less potent one "

- Red Rice Yeast in Cholsetin 3 was a potent product in fact :

On 324 patients receiving this product (1) for 8 weeks it was found:

- Total cholesterol serum down to - 22,7 %

Low-density lipoprotein cholesteroel (LDL) down to -30.9%

- High-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol UP to + 19.9%,

- Serum triglycerides DOWN_ 34.1%

(1) Multicenter clinical trial of the serum lipid-lowering effects of a Monascus

purpureus (red yeast) J Wang, Z Lu, J Chi and Al.

----------------------

In a meta analysis of 93 researches including 9625 participant it was found that

red rice yeast was in it s potency similar to : pravastatin, simvastatin,

lovastatin, atorvastatin, or fluvastatin, BUT with minor side effect like nausea

in few patients.

(3) Chinese red yeast rice (Monascus purpureus) for primary hyperlipidemia: a

meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials Jianping Liu Jing Zhang,Yi

Shi,Sameline Grimsgaard,Terje Alraek, and Vinjar

BUT between you and me,as you probably know we don't need any drugs or

supplements and we can control our cholesterol with nutrition AS WELL as with

statins ! see :

Direct comparison of a dietary portfolio of cholesterol-lowering foods with a

statin in hypercholesterolemic participants. Clinical Nutrition and Risk Factor

Modification Center, St Michael's Hospital, Toronto, Canada.

or read the book Senior Athlete from Ruth Heidrich ( 74 years old triathlon

athlete )

What people need to do is have bowel movements, increase their fresh veggies

(yes juicing) and eat healthy fats. The fats help the bile to move from the GB

and Liver and pushes the Cholesterol into the intestines for the body to pass

out. Sally Fallon: Good Fats Bad Fats.

Read Weston A Price.org for detailed information on this subject. It has worked

very well on clients.
