Guest guest
I don't know where you get that probiotics are creating antibodies. All probiotics do is introduce good bacteria into the GI system that helps the body's immune system in fighting infections and disease and to counteract the adverse effects of antibiotics, which wipe out the good bacteria in your GI and give you the antibiotic related colitis. Probiotics do not hyperstimulate the immune system. They support it. I have an auto-immune dz and I take probiotics daily and I never have a problem. Plus, my rheumatologist and my natural medicine MD both agree that taking them is an excellent idea. ---- PParkegail 3/23/2009 8:31:08 AM << >> Re:Probiotics As A Second Immune System Please can you tell me how this would affect autoimmune disease. To have a 'second immune system' (and probiotics which produce extra antibodies) would presumably aggravate/over stimulate an already aggressive immune system, as do products like Spirulina, Echinacea and the like. The aim is to modulate and balance the immune system, so where do Probiotics stand with that? I add them to natural yoghurt, so I was particularly interested in your post! Thank you Peta
Guest guest
Yes, but it does not HYPERstimulate the immune system. That was the point of the post. Probiotics benefit the immune system by supporting it- not causing it to go into overdrive. ---- sharonstrahan 03/27/09 20:38:55 << >> Re:Probiotics As A Second Immune System Just search on probiotics and autoimmune disease. One study: Matsuzaki T, Takagi A, Ikemura H, Matsuguchi T, Yokokura T. Intestinal microflora: probiotics and autoimmunity. J Nutr. 2007 Mar;137 (3 Suppl 2):798S-802S. Can be found here: http://jn.nutrition.org/cgi/content/full/137/3/798S or an abstract in PubMed: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17311978?ordinalpos=2 & itool=EntrezSystem2 PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_DefaultReportPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum It talks about how probiotics show a modulatory effect on the immune system.
