Guest guest
Hi Bob .. other good folks .. (clipped) > I have been researching what natural anti fungal products to take as the > pharms are tough on the liver amoung other things Ive heard. > These are some I have found : caprylic acid, wild mountain oregano oil, > olive leaf extract, L -glutamine, pau de arco, garlic, grape seed > extract, undelaic sp? acid, apple cider vinegar Proteolytic enzymes > and a few anti fungal homeopathic's. Except for one item, I won't comment on the list you provided above since I long ago learned it was a lost cause to try to insert reality into the fictional world of natural products .. the one I will comment on is the so-called " mountain grown " Origanum. A few years back a fellow named Cass Igram wrote a book called " The Cure is in the Cupboard: How to Use Origanum for Better Health " .. of some such title. In this book Igram claimed that ONLY wild, mountain grown Turkish Origanum vulgare had therapeutic properties .. all the others were a waste of time, etc. This was total hawg warsh but Igram and the company her worked with. North American Herb and Spice, made a lot of money with such claims .. he was on the radio often and his company even got into multi-level marketing. Pretty soon we had a fad going and everybody and his buddy did a spring off and started selling Oregano .. calling it Mountain Grown Origanum vulgare. The problems with these claims are .. they are not factual. And .. most of what these people (including Igram) were selling were NOT Origanum vulgare. There is not enough wild grown Origanum vulgare produced to supply all of those who make such claims. How do I know this? First, those who know me consider me to be one of the knowledgeable folks on Turkish Origanums and Rosa damascena (Rose Otto) .. and I was a major supplier to Igram for a long time .. sold him TONS of Oregano Essential Oil each month .. and it was NOT all Origanum vulgare. It mattered not that it was not because it is NOT only Origanum vulgare that has powerful therapeutic properties (to include being a fantastic anti-fungal EO) .. any and all of the Origanums will do the same thing. Oh yea .. Turkish Origanum vulgare is NOT necessarily Mountain Grown .. true it is that the lion's share of it comes from the southeast and the area is mountainous .. but just as much is found in the lowlands and along the Med Coast .. and its batched .. not separated by region. In Turkey, harvest of wild grown aromatics is restricted to the peasants only .. it is controlled by the Ministry of Forests and enforced by the Gendarmes. The peasants in a particular area will harvest the plants and then sell them to a broker .. that broker then hauls them into the stills .. in many trucks. Sometimes they arrive at the still in a convoy of 5 and 10 ton trucks .. packed in 40 kilo bags. The still will do a cursory inspection .. maybe opening a few bags and spreading the plant material out onto a concrete floor .. what he is looking for is material that is not Origanum. From that material he will get a yield of between 15-20 kilos of oil per metric ton of aromatic material .. so there are many trucks showing up. I will stop here .. I could go on and on as I have written tons on the Origanums over the years. Just to let y'all know who I am .. I am a retired U.S. Army Military Police Officer (30 years service) .. and I have spent 26+ years of my life living in Turkey .. I just returned from my latest stint in Turkey (which lasted 19+ years) in summer of 2007. I was a contract producer of EO .. among other things. I closed my company in Turkey but still own the one in Maryland .. and I have now settled in Henry County, TN .. near Kentucky Lake. I've been in this business since 1995 but odds are that this will be my last year because I have now learned that I am more interested in organic gardening, fishing and hunting deer and wild turkey. ;-) The point of this post is to inform y'all .. and to save you money. You do NOT have to swallow all the crap that is put out by sellers of Oregano EO .. or any other natural product. It is good marketing to make one's wares appear to be special .. but in most cases it is not factual information. See the below for the truth. * - - - - - - - - - - - FACTS ON THE ORIGANUM'S - - - - - - - - - - * *All of the Origanum's except the Origanum dubium Linalool Type are Carvacrol rich and Carvacrol is the active therapeutic component most people seek.* *Origanum vulgare* is the best seller though its really no better or worse than any other Origanum. Maybe people think its the best because there is one company making health claims and selling it as * " Oil of Oregano " * in a 10% Oregano/90% Olive Oil mixture for as much as $39.95 per 2/3 ounce bottle. People see mine as being less costly. With mine, one can mix their own and create a dozen bottles of the $39.95 product for less than half the price. And that company is *NOT selling ONLY Origanum vulgare* .. I know their supplier and they are producing as much *Origanum dubium Carvacrol *as they are anything else. * I will add that the company I speak of was charged with false advertising and taken to court by the FTC. On 31 July 2008, they were fined 2.5 million dollars and had many, many other restrictions placed on them. I believe that they will probably have to close their company.* *Origanum onites* has been the next best seller and that might be due to some things I've written on it and a portion of the lecture I gave at an Aromatherapy Conference in Toronto, Canada in September 1999. I presented some research conducted by *five prominent professors in Turkey using Origanum onites* in a project involving lung tumors in rats, using three different groups and three treatments, one of them being a normal cancer treatment. I presented the study and showed the audience colored micro slides of the lung tissues. The *Origanum onites *not only stopped the growth but also caused recession of the growths! The lung tissue was reverting to its previously normal pink and clear state!! *I made it clear that this is not an indication that it will cure cancer in humans but it shows a great need for further research. * *Origanum dubium Carvacrol* is the next best seller, possibly because it appears to have a milder odor than the others. Turkish folks generally prefer it for home medication. *Contrary to the marketing claims of many fad sales companies .. to include the one I mentioned above,* *Origanum onites and Origanum dubium Carvacrol*have the exact same therapeutic properties as does *Origanum vulgare.* *In fact, they are not all selling Origanum vulgare anyway .. the world supply is not sufficient to supply all those who make such claims. *To take it a bit further .. I have supplied companies who make claims of selling only Origanum vulgare .. *but that is NOT all they purchased from me. * *Origanum dubium (Linalool type)* is in its own class .. a very nice odor and dual therapeutic value. It's high in *linalool,* as is lavender, and high in *carvacrol,* as is oregano. It has properties of both oregano and lavender .. so much so that the common name in Turkey is Lavanta Kekik (Lavender Oregano.) It's endemic to Turkey - it is not found elsewhere and even in Turkey it's only found in a very small corner of the Southeast. When people get samples of it from us, they buy it. I normally use it for inhalation and it is great for diffusion - I love the odor. *I personally prefer Origanum vulgare, Origanum onites or Origanum dubium Carvacrol for assisting in kicking Big Bad Bug Butts (cold, flu, sinuses) and I personally believe that they help me and mine but I would never make claims that they can kill these critters because I do not have FDA approved studies to support it .. and I have never and will never make recommendations or even suggestions to others on ingestion of essential oils. I recommend buyers consult their doctor prior to this manner of usage. * For diffusion any one will do the job but just for inhalation, I'd go with the *Origanum dubium (Linalool type)* because I love the odor. Unfortunately, it is out of stock now . there is none in the market this year. *All Origanum's *have reported antiseptic, anti microbial, anti fungal, anti-spasmodic properties and they are believed to be capable of stimulating the immune system .. which can assist the body to overcome viral infections by putting the virus in a retrograde mode.. by stopping its reproduction so it goes back into defilade position. *The above statement is based on in vivo and in vitro studies on the properties of Carvacrol but it would be a violation of FDA and FTC regulations to extrapolate information from those lab studies and attempt to indicate that they apply to human beings .. accordingly, I do not make such claims.* *So - one can choose based on the above descriptions of each oil. * > Any help you can provide me with , or products you feel may help me > would be so appreciated, I hope I have been able to do that. In case you did not notice .. I am not known for brevity. ;-) > Be well, > Bob from NY And you .. have a nice day .. and keep smiling. :-) Butch .. http://www.AV-AT.com <http://www.av-at.com/> PS: *Aromatic Journeys: *If you would like to take a trip through the Rose Fields and Stills of Turkey, go to the following links ... *My writings on distillation of Turkish Rose Otto can be found athttp://www.av-at.com/distillation/rosadamascena1.html Here is a link with lots of good photos of wild aromatic plants of Turkey http://www.av-at.com/stuff/triptoturkey.html Martin Watt visited the Turkish Rose Fields in Summer 2000 - the following article on his trip was published in the Winter 2000 edition of the European magazine " Aromatica " . http://www.aromamedical.com/articles/rosedistillation.htm*
Guest guest
Wow, I really appreciate when someone exposes the real truth. I too read the book you speak of and it did introduce me to the abilities of Oil of Oregano. But, was wondering if that product they spoke of as the only one was really true. Thank you for explaining, and exposing the truth of the matter. Thank you for also telling us the acurate types of Oregano to use. Now a question: Do you have any source of info, a book, literature-which tells how to use the Oil of OR. for what problems, doses recommended, etc. As oil of Or. is now being used to cure infections that antibotics can't touch, such as MRSA, how would one know how much to administer? There are so many supposed uses for it, but the little bottle doesn't tell you anything much! Any info, would be most helpful. Thanks again, Gina in IL
