Guest guest
Happy Holidays, everyone Here I am again with a serious question. I think I have found the root of my troubles. To recap, I have been putting on 12lbs per year for the past 4 years. Imagine that. At present, I am 50 lbs overweight. This year, I decided that diets were not doing it so I checked my thyroid and adrenals (which are all normal). My TSH was low, the first time, though I keep putting on weight. The endo prescribed Tapazole, which I took for a month. It didn't make any sense to have symptoms of hypothyroid and having hyperthyroid. Then, I did another TSH and it came out normal: .52 (.35-5.5). It is still on the lower side of it. The endo wanted me to continue the Tapazole, but I had stopped it a month before this last test was done anyway. I have been very depressed among other things so the GP gave me Prozac, which I started taking 3 weeks ago. So far, can't see the difference, except that I am sighing very heavily because it seems that I don't get enough air. This I will stop when I have time to check what natural remedies have a good effect. I also checked other things but the most significant differences were my low level of Vit. D: 17 (30-89) and my calcium in the blood which is a little high: 5.8 (4.5-5.6) I kept on researching this stuff and came across Parathyroid. I asked to be checked and just got the results: 99 (15-65)! I went back to the parathyroid site and it says that I probably have a parathyroid adenoma (tumor) and they say it is necessary to remove this sick gland. Of the symptoms of hyperparathyroid, I have most of them. The only symptom it doesn't mention is the weight gain. I know this is a bad time to post this message as most of you are celebrating, but if you come across this message and know about this stuff, would you mind giving me your opinion? Thanks much, Maria
Guest guest
Maria From what I can tell, you are just looking at symptoms and making a conjecture. I think you need to find out for sure about the tumor. As far as the weight gain, you need to count the amount of exercise you do and figure out the calories burned vs. the caloric intake and burn more than you take in. Guest guest
Yes! Since the nice MDs haven't been able to help me, I have to fend for myself, with the help of the knowledge of members of this group. Any ideas and directions are much appreciated. Will request a scan for the parathyroid but I doubt it will show, for I live in a small town and the medical equipment is far from optimal. I have a goiter and now wonder if it is the parathyroid and not the thyroid that is enlarged. Also, it is not the caloric intake and neither the lack of exercise for the weight gain. There is something else and this is what I have been trying to find out. Thanks.
