Guest guest
Since it didn't respond to antibiotics there 2 things that it could be: 1 it is a virus. Antibiotics don't work in viruses. 2. If they didn't culture the throat prior to giving you antibiotics, they don't really know which strain of bacteria, [ if it is indeed bacteria] that is causing the infection. The culture and sensitivity will tell us which antibiotic to use. Nancie ---- Lynn Koiner 12/10/2008 7:34:57 PM << >> persistent sore throat A friend has recently developed a persistent sore throat. She went to the doctor and was given antibiotics, which seemed to help for a minute. She again developed a sore throat and difficulty talking. She actually could not talk for 3 days. " Now for the last 3 weeks, I have been taking meds, but the sore throat will not go away. I have no fever, no swollen glands - just severe sore throat aggravated by talking. This is especially difficult when I have to yell at my 19 year old son. " Does anyone have any suggestions as to the cause? Her GP has no suggestions, just more antibiotics. Gratefully, Lynn
Guest guest
First thing... tell your friend to stop yelling! Not only is it harming her, but yelling at children doesn't accomplish anything. She would get better results nailing jell-o to a tree. From experience, my teen is more likely to listen to me if I speak quietly than if I yell. No sense in getting my BP up because my child is tuning me out. As for the cause... if your friend lives in a Northern clime where the heating season has started, she may want to invest in a humidifier. Over nights when I don't plug my in because I am just too lazy or tired to do it, I wake up with horrific sore throats that linger for days until I start using the humidifier again. She might also want to get tested for allergies. It is a simple blood test for the basics and then if she has specific concerns for food allergies, that can be tested with an elimation diet (information readily available on elimination diets on-line). I am allergic to cats and yet I choose to keep five feline friends in my household. During shedding season, I have to bath them once a week or I develop the sore throat again. Hot tea with licorice, ginger, lemon, honey, mint, lavender, rosehips may help. I also find that riccola brand throat lozenges work wonders (they have many of the same herbs in them). She might also wish to consult with and ENT. Unlike others, my experiences with medical professionals have all been VERY positive as ALL my doctors have been open to and encourage alternative medical methods (which has been especially encouraging in this age of increased chemical sensativity, outrageous pharmacutical prices and slash and remove mentality). Guest guest
Dear Lynn, If there is an infection try some zinc. It should work quickly. I developed a sore throat some time back and had little water blisters all over the back. Zinc worked like a charm. Also colloidal silver will protect you from flu this winter. It kills over 650 germs, virus etc while antibiotics only about a dozen or so. Guest guest
I gargle with vinager- it changes the ph temporarily and kills the junk in there. Honey, lemon, and whiskey make a good toddy and relief; as do the Riccola drops as someone else suggested. I use Ecchinacea and golden seal also when I have had such.
