Guest guest
It would be great if you could pass this on to anyone - It is being debated this Thursday afternoon. For some people with physical disabilities and MCS this is their only way of getting assistance care and wait times can be 4-10 years. Community Care Access Centres deny helping people with MCS as they will not provide someone who is scent free and smoke free. (Even with Doctors letters and lengthy phone calls). A letter written requesting assistance by an MPP on behalf of their constituent to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care has been denied. This is a violation of descrimination as the Ontario Human Rights Commission formally recognizes environmental sensitivities as a disability. - Julia Fice 'Julia Fice' Tuesday, October 28, 2008 11:19 AM Attendant Services Business Case - Update Hi Everyone, Attendant service funding and wait times s to be debated in the Ontario Legislature this Thursday, October 30!!! See below. Go after your MPPs to support this next week in the Leg. Talk to you soon. Cheryl OCSA Independent Living Service Providers: Attached is an updated version of the Attendant Services paper released in August - just a small change in Appendix D to include another service provider that was missed in the original version. I also wanted to let you know that on October 9th, Ted Arnott, MPP for Waterloo-Wellington (PC) tabled the following resolution in the Legislature: " That the McGuinty Liberal government add attendant services to the Provincial Wait Times Strategy, and allocate funding according to how many individuals actually require services. " Mr. Arnott was approached by a constituent in his riding who receives Attendant Services who had seen our report and drew it to his attention asking him to do something about the issue. It will be debated in the Ontario Legislature by all parties next Thursday afternoon, October 30th. Ted Arnott is issuing a press release on the 30th (which I will forward to you when released). He is also hosting a press conference that morning at Queen's Park. Please contact your local M.P.P.s and ask that they support the resolution and speak to the issue during the debate. I spoke with Angie Haydon, CEO of the Ontario Health Quality Council, this morning at the OCSA conference and gave her a copy of our report, noting that we are recommending Attendant Services wait times be added to the Ministry's Wait Times Strategy and be tracked and reported on by the Council.
