I would get a diagnosis from a doctor first then self treat, it sounds like

exfoliative cheilitis. Good luck, Susie, who does not play doctor not even on

tv.

Hello, I have had this strange problem going on with my lips for

almost three months . I was wondering if this could be a vitamin

deficiency or something else like oral candidiasis.

Whats going on is very bad painful, red, dry, swollen lips, with very

small red sores

that can leak a water like fluid (there could be one or two sores or

many at the same time), the lips get red, dry , inflamed and the

corners of the mouth get very red, dry, cracked and sore, its over

pretty much the entire lip area. It hurts to

eat, smile and talk.

Its not cold sores, the lips don't look or act like cold sores do,or

heal like cold sore do. lysine did not help and cold sore ointments

did not help. This lip problem will get a bit better then come back

again worse. It has been going on since about -July 20,08.

This last week it seems to have got about 80 % better, but I still

get tightness, peeling and dryness in the corners of the mouth as well

as this strange almost raw feeling on the lower lip .I put lip balm on

my lips but the bottom lip,...it feels like there is nothing but

mucus membrane like skin for the lip balm to stick to( does that

make sense?).

I started to take more B-2 about 400mgs a day added to the B-complex

100 I take already. what ive read on B-2 sounds much like whats going

on. but I have read up on other vitamin deficiencies , and many have

the same symptoms. I also take other vitamins and herbs. I really

think I might have some vitamin deficiencies because I dont eat a

lot and when I do eat I dont think I get enough protein and veggies,

also I dont drink milk or eat many grain products, those I believe

are good sources for b- vitamins as well as other nutrients. also I

dont eat a lot of fruit , trying to avoid too much sugar.

Then I thought about vitamin A, the same symptoms of getting too much

are the same as a deficiency . I take about 4000 IUs in cod liver

softgels from vitacost and about a tablespoonful of Carlson's cod

liver oil, it has about 700 ius to 1,200 ius per teaspoon. I take

the Carlson's about everyday but at times ill stop taking it and take

the Carlson's very finest fish oil. am I getting enough vitamin A ?

or maybe to much? I also take 10,000 ius of beta carotene a day.

I have been hypothyroid since 1995, and in the last two years I have

also been dealing with adrenal fatigue. Ive read that hypothyroid

people cant convert beta- carotene into vitamin A that well.

I have some hair loss and other symptoms , but I dont know if they

are thyroid ,adrenal, stress or lack of a vitamin or mineral. (most

likely all of those). back in 2005 I was having some strange lip

problems , not really like whats going on now but similar , I

think it was caused by the benzos I was getting off of then, and at

that time I had blood tests for vit A and beta carotene they both

came back on the high side so I lowered my doses.I was taking about

25,000ius beta- carotene and im not sure about the vitamin A

probably around 5-6000ius maybe.

I also came across a condition called cheilitis or angular chelitis,

a condition of the lips which can be caused by nutritional

deficiencies, B-vitamins and iron, or by oral candidiasis or other

pathogens.

Its not my toothpaste, I do not wear lipstick,I wear natural organic

lip balms , I dont think its a contact type of thing causing this.

I can't see a doctor because I do not have health insurance right now.

What could this problem be? does this sound like a vitamin

deficiency? maybe the amounts of my supplements I have been taking

and my diet are not enough since the adrenal fatigue?, and the stress

increased and my vitamin intake did not?

I dont now if I should increase my B-vitamins.

I was also looking into getting some High Vitamin Cod Liver Oil, but

im still a bit frightened of getting too much vit A. vitamin A has got

such a bad rap. is the High Vitamin Cod Liver Oil a good thing to

try for whats going on with my lips/mouth?

sorry for the long post.

Thank You very much for any help, Sherie
