Moderator's note: What is your experience with fasting? Why a " ten " day " water "

fast? Have you considered other types of fasts- that vary in both duration and

strictness?

----------

Hello All:

My name is Stuart. I am a natural soapmaker.

I am interested in learning the best way or the proper way to fast

for

a period for about 10 days. This would be a water fast.

I have high blood pressure (160/100) and my aim is to lower it

naturally. I have not yet allowed the physician to talk me into

medication. I also have a chemically sensitive asthma-like condition.

I lost 30 lbs. in my first effort to lower my blood pressure. Only

one

reading was close to the medical communities idea of ideal pressure.

I had a reading of 130/90 at 182 lbs. I continued the weight loss,

since I have a history of lowered blood pressure paralleling lowered

body weight. However, now I weigh 170, but my pressure readings vary

a

lot but I could say they average 165/95.

I had read about an institute in CA that specializes in water

fasting.

I did just buy a book on the subject from Amazon and await that.

I did a lot of research on the Internet on water fasting, but only

cleansing seemed to be covered in full. I don't have money to pay

$5000

for an institute to guide me through a fast. I have found out a bit

but

was hoping if anyone could direct me or provide me with information

about water fasting.

Thank you for you time.

-Stuart

Personally, I would not suggest that anyone go on a 10 day fast. The

body can just get too depleted, especially for thin people. I would

not suggest anything longer than 3 days of water. A good Ayurvedic/

Yogic way would be a mono diet. There are lots of these. One may be

just veggies and nuts. Others are steamed beets and carrots for the

liver, kitcheree, banana/ cardamon seed diet, melon diet, steamed

apples, steamed celery without chopping celery, raw zucchini diet,

turnip-ghee-black pepper diet, etc.

Stuart,

Drinking lots and lots of water help me to keep my bp down.  Minimizing salt in

take also keep bp in check. I once had my bp high and it would not come down and

an old Italian lady taught me the Epsom salt/orange juice technique as follows:

Before retiring to bed, put 2 TBSPs of epsom salt in a pint of water.

The following morning, get an empty glass and put your index and third finger

together OUTSIDE the side of the glass and pour the epsom salt water solution

into the glass using the top  side of the index finger as your guide to stop.

Fill the glass with orange juice.  Drink this straight.  This will serve as a

sort of purgative so stay home when you do this.  You will see your bp go down

after bowel movement and drink lots and lots of water too.

This worked for me and i hope it would work for you too.
