This is about the difference between synthetic and natural vitamins &

minerals, among other things. I have no financial connection with this project

NOSG: RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The Naturally Occurring Standards Group (NOSG) is dedicated to advancing the

understanding of naturally occurring health and regeneration in humans and

throughout nature by establishing Naturally Occurring Standard (NOS) research

studies and protocols for all health-impacting natural materials used in

consumer products, including vitamins, nutritional supplements, medicines, and

food.

The purpose of our research program is to develop clear scientific methods

that distinguish NOS materials from those that are synthetic or un-natural and

to demonstrate the natural benefits and ascendancy of NOS materials and

products through qualitative and quantitative means.

The NOS research program includes potential research on all presumed NOS

products and materials that will include the integration of existing

methodologies and research as well as the development of new testing methods

and means

of quantification, qualification and analysis.

The NOSG intends to reveal by scientific investigation, analysis,

classification, testing, clinical and independent studies, and by the

development of

special standardization methods, the unique qualities, and effective quantities

of all potentially qualified NOS materials, ingredients, and finished

consumer products.

Current NOS Research: The NDI as an alternative to the RDA

The NOSG's current research project is the development of a new set of

vitamin, mineral, and nutrient food supplement standards that we call " Natural

Daily Intake " or NDI. Unlike the Recommended Daily Allowance standards (RDA

or RDI) the NDI will be based upon research that is focused upon NOS nutrients

quantities and potencies as found only in 100% organic1 and non-GM whole

foods and botanical sources including full-spectrum extracts rather than those

from synthetic or non-organic sources or from isolated and concentrated

natural sources divorced form their naturally occurring sources and complexes.

The NDI project will entail a full range of NOS nutrient protocol based

studies including human clinical trials and research.

The NDI research project also includes the identification of specific NOS

nutrients such as real, whole complex vitamins and minerals using established

and non-conventional laboratory methods and protocols.

The next wave in nutraceutical evolution involves a shift of focus towards

naturally occurring nutrients and nutrient potencies. This is in direct

opposition to a century of historical attention (certainly since the 1906 Pure

Food

and Drugs Act) given almost exclusively to synthetic nutrients and synthetic

or non-organic potencies.

The time has come where both the consumer and the marketplace need

scientifically established informational tools and standards to discriminate

between

synthetic or non-organic nutrients and those that are NOS.

NOS vitamins and minerals of significant potencies and derived exclusively

from botanical and food concentrates are now coming forward. NOS Vitamin and

Mineral potency sources are not isolates, synthetics, analogues, or spiked

mediums and therefore, NOS testing quantification and qualification of complex

whole nutrients must be established to understand their actual efficacy and

ascendancy over synthetic or non-organic quantities of vitamins, minerals, or

nutrients.

The NDI will be based upon research that is focused upon NOS nutrient

quantities and potencies as found only in 100% organic and non-GMO whole foods

and

botanical sources and concentrates rather than those from synthetic or

non-organic sources. All NDI studies and human clinical trials will be based

upon

NOS related and developed nutrient protocols and reference standards.

An important part of establishing the NDI standard will be the demonstration

of the efficacy of NOS nutrient potencies and their superior usefulness for

human nutrition as compared to current RDA/RDI synthetic standards potencies.

The NOSG will take a phased approach to this research project.

First Phase of NDI Research:

Protocols and testing methods for basic nutrients such as vitamins are being

developed as a fundamental part of the NDI research project. These testing

methods are necessary to identify and distinguish between nutrients that are

naturally occurring and those that are synthetic.

Positive identification testing of nutrients, as per the nutrient

classifications above, begins with the identification of synthetic vitamins

from

synthesized sources vs. natural vitamins from NOS sources. For example, the

identification of vitamin C as coming from petroleum sources (e.g. sodium

ascorbate), fermented process sources (e.g. ascorbic acid from corn sugar) and

Naturally Occurring sources (full spectrum vitamin C from Amla berries or Camu

Camu).

Second Phase of NDI Research:

Natural Daily Intake nutrient potencies with emphasis on qualification will

be assessed. We will research and help to determine how and why smaller

amounts of NOS nutrients are required for healthy effectiveness as opposed to

those from synthetic sources. Assessments of nutrient impact on human and

animal health will also be made.

Third Phase of NDI Research:

Full development of NDI nutrient recommendations and an NDI index for

nutritional maintenance of human health will be developed with emphasis on

quantification of minimum NDI nutrient values.

The initial estimated time for the completion of the NDI Research project is

five years. (Time table includes all research and human studies.) The

initial estimated cost of the NDI Research project is five million dollars

(USD).

We invite you to participate in and support current NOS research projects

with your scientific contributions and tax-deductible donations. We are open

to co-development and participation in any new proposed NOS projects and

related joint ventures.
