I am a 41 yr woman, mother of 3 living in Brisbane who has many

problems with bones which caused vertabrae to collapse onto spinal

cord 10 yrs ago, leaving me an incomplete tetraplegic. I have

spondylitis, cervical spondylosis, scoliosis of lumbar spine,

numerous oestophytes, at the moment 6 prolapsing discs( 1 in neck, 2

in thoracic, and 3 in lumbar spine), stenosis of canal, kyphosis of

cervical spine, I still have some sensation, and suffer an enormous

amount of pain, inc deep bone pain, muscular pain , and neuropathic

pain . I am wheelchair bound, with both legs and my right arm

affected. I am unable to work any longer, and I find the pain is

getting progressively worse.

I take Lyrica 225mg twice daily and panadeine forte x 8 - 10 per day,

but it is no longer reducing the pain by much, let alone taking it

away. I have had 2 spine surgeries (laminectomy, disktectomy, fusion

and vertabrectomy), but am not allowed to go under the knife again

unless it is emergency.

On top of that I also have: high cholestrol, oesteoarthritis,

oesteoporosis, Hyperglycaemia, and depression.

I really need help. Can you suggest any other alternatives to help me

with this. My doctor is unable to come up with anything to help me.

He says that if I go on morphine, it will counter react with my

prozac which I am on for depression. I am finding it all very

distressing and depressing anyway. Any advice you can give me would

be most appreciated.

I think, with all of your medical problems, you need to be in close contact with

a Pain Management practice/facility. Most doctors are either not aware of or

don't care enough to focus on pain management and I think pain management for

your situation should be your primary focus right now. If your doctor won't

help, contact a pain management center near you and ask them how to proceed.
