Guest guest
Bibliography of all peer-reviewed scientific papers, official reports, books and book chapters on MCS _http://www.mcsrr.org/resources/bibliography/_ (http://www.mcsrr.org/resources/bibliography/) MCS Referral & Resources maintains a complete bibliography of peer-reviewed scientific papers, official reports, books and book chapters on Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. The full bibliography is available sorted either alphabetically or chronologically for $75. The breakdown by subsets as shown below is available for an additional $75. To order some of the best papers on MCS evaluation, treatment, accommodation and research (in our humble opinion), see our _Resource List_ (http://www.mcsrr.org/resources/literature.html) Among over 609 references on MCS as of 9/99: (not counting anything from the journal Clinical Ecology, which specializes in MCS) * 311 present findings of a _physical/organic basis for MCS_ (http://www.mcsrr.org/resources/bibliography/organic.html) and/or critique a psychogenic basis * 137 present findings of a _psychogenic basis for MCS_ (http://www.mcsrr.org/resources/bibliography/psych.html) and/or critique a physical/organic basis * 96 present findings of _both perspectives_ (http://www.mcsrr.org/resources/bibliography/mixed.html) and/or do not take a clear position either way * 37 present _research protocols_ (http://www.mcsrr.org/resources/bibliography/research.html) designed to test hypotheses about the basis of MCS * 53 present _letters to the editor_ (http://www.mcsrr.org/resources/bibliography/letters.html) about MCS * 14 present _articles and letters not yet coded_ (http://www.mcsrr.org/resources/bibliography/uncoded.html) -- includes most recent from 2000 * _All 609 references, sorted chronologically_ (http://www.mcsrr.org/resources/bibliography/allchrono.html) * _All 609 references, sorted alphabetically_ (http://www.mcsrr.org/resources/bibliography/allalpha.html) The peer-reviewed medical literature on MCS dates from 1952 but more than half the 400+ references identified by MCS R & R were published since 1992. Some of what has been reported on MCS in Medical Journals: * 1881: Drug, alcohol, food and chemical sensitivitities (along with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia) are all described by G.M. Beard as symptoms of Neurasthenia. * 1952: The first peer-reviewed paper on chemical sensitivity, by Theron Randolph, appears in J Clin Lab Med (40:931-2) * 1963: The first double-blind " challenge " study of chemical sensitivity in humans appears in Med Ann DC (32:1-8). * Since 1952, over 400 medical articles, book chapters, editorials, and conference proceedings have been published on MCS. * More than 1/2 these articles suggest a physical basis for MCS, while less than 1/4 suggest a psychiatric, psychogenic or iatrogenic basis. This gap has been growing for a decade. * More than 1/2 the articles on MCS were published since 1992, in contrast to the anti-MCS position papers of various medical societies, which all predate 1993.
