Guest guest
About a week ago I posted info regarding a called SoilandHealth - the owner is thw owner of a website and library of many books which are free to download. You will be amazed at the books that you can download free. Soil And Health Library This website provides free e-books about holistic agriculture, holistic health and self-sufficient homestead living. Free, online library of organic gardening, natural farming, and nutrition. Plus many other subjects now; for example, Health Politics. Highly recommended by Dr Saul. Health begins in the soil; Healing begins with hygiene; Liberty begins with freedom. _http://www.soilandhealth.org/_'>http://www.soilandhealth.org/_ (http://www.soilandhealth.org/) There are also free books to download at a website called Journey To Forever. The books here are mostly about farming, gardening, biofuels and politics though there are some on health too. There are only about a couple dozen or so here - this is not a library like the Soil and Health. There are also books like Weston A Price's book " Nutrition and Physical Degeneration " here too. Journey to Forever Journey to Forever is a pioneering expedition by a small, mobile NGO (Non-Government Organization) involved in environment and rural development work, starting from Hong Kong and travelling 40,000 kilometres through 26 countries in Asia and Africa to Cape Town, South Africa. This is a participatory project. It's both a real journey and a virtual one via a high-speed satellite link with the vehicles and interactive forums online at our Website, where participants -- expert consultants or anyone with a PC and a modem, and especially schoolchildren -- can take an active part in the project as it unfolds. The focus will be on trees, soil and water, sustainable farming, sustainable technology, and family nutrition. The aim is to help people fight poverty and hunger, and to help sustain the environment we all must share. Also 2 libraries here with many free downloads of books. There is a great deal of info here - must see it to appreciate what is here. This is also for anybody interested in sustainable living for themselves in Canad and/or America. _http://journeytoforever.org/index.html_ (http://journeytoforever.org/index.html) _http://journeytoforever.org/_ (http://journeytoforever.org/) There is info on copyrights and downloading at both those websites - below I have added some more. Evidently if a book in no longer in print , it can usually be copied and downloaded amd also is the author is dead, etc. blessings Shan _U.S. copyright renewal records available for download_ (http://booksearch.blogspot.com/2008/06/us-copyright-renewal-records-available.h\ tml) _http://booksearch.blogspot.com/2008/06/us-copyright-renewal-records-available ..html_ (http://booksearch.blogspot.com/2008/06/us-copyright-renewal-records-available.h\ tml) Monday, June 23, 2008 at 9:45 AM Posted by Jon Orwant, Engineering Manager, Google Book Search If I handed you a book and asked whether it was in copyright or in the public domain, you'd probably turn to the copyright page first. Unfortunately, a copyright page can't answer that question definitively -- at best, it could tell you when the book in your hands was published, and who owned the rights to it at that time. Ownership can change, though: rights revert back to authors, and after enough time has passed, the book enters into the public domain, letting people copy and adapt it as they wish. So how much time is " enough " ? _It varies_ (http://www.copyright.cornell.edu/public_domain/) , often depending on the country, on when the book was published, and whether the author is living. For U.S. books published between 1923 and 1963, the rights holder needed to submit a form to the U.S. Copyright Office renewing the copyright 28 years after publication. In _most cases_ (http://www.copyright.cornell.edu/public_domain/#Footnote_10) , books that were never renewed are now in the public domain. Estimates of how many books were renewed vary, but everyone agrees that most books weren't renewed. If true, that means that the majority of U.S. books published between 1923 and 1963 are freely usable. How do you find out whether a book was renewed? You have to check the U.S. Copyright Office records. Records from 1978 onward are online (see _http://www.copyright.gov/records_'>http://www.copyright.gov/records_ (http://www.copyright.gov/records) ) but not downloadable in bulk. The Copyright Office hasn't digitized their earlier records, but Carnegie Mellon scanned them as part of their Universal Library Project, and the tireless folks at _Project Gutenberg_ (http://pg.net/) and the _Distributed Proofreaders_ (http://www.pgdp.net/c/) painstakingly corrected the OCR. Thanks to the efforts of Google software engineer Jarkko Hietaniemi, we've gathered the records from both sources, massaged them a bit for easier parsing, and combined them into a single XML file available for _download here_ (http://dl.google.com/rights/books/renewals/google-renewals-20080516.zip) . There are undoubtedly errors in these records, but we believe this is the best and most comprehensive set of renewal records available today. These records are free and in the public domain, and we hope you're able to use them to determine the copyright status of books that interest you. At Google, we're committed to making as many books available online to users as possible while respecting copyright, and this is one example of that commitment. Watch this space for more to come.
