Guest guest Posted June 28, 2008 Report Share Posted June 28, 2008 I saw Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, MD (also a leading authority on CFS and Fibromyalgia) on television yesterday speaking on an alternative medicine forum. He stated that the number of people with fibromyalgia has skyrocketed. Perhaps the total number has been way underestimated for years and I do not know where he gets these percentages, but I trust that these figures are maybe even slim. The number of people in the US alone has gone from 2% of the population to a whopping 8% of the population. We better be paying more attention to this ... we who have had CFS and Fibromyalgia are like the canaries in the mine. He made distinctions between people who have chronic fatigue and their immunity is collapsing and those who have had nearly total collapse of their immune system. I'm in a 12-step food program, Food Addicts in Recovery and have lost lots of weight. The people in that program are unsympathetic to this illness. I've heard so many time... " we all had fatigue at the beginning of this program... " not realizing what people with CFS and Fibro are faced with is MUCH MUCH different. It has been a challenge to want to stay with that program because of such unenlightened individuals. Just my two cents worth. Thanks for listening.
