If you know what pesticide you are reacting to, use this line to report

severe reactions or poisoning. Half-life information is available and can help

determine seriousness of contaminations. Class of pesticide information

determines what is most effective for cleanup. The reports are gathered to

track the

safety of EPA approved pesticides.

Report to ECHO. ECHO Tracking Adverse Health Effects of Pesticides

As you know many cases of pesticide injury are never documented or reported.

As part of ECHO's " Lady Bug Project " we have developed a Pesticide Incident

form to collect data on injuries caused by pesticides. We hope to use this

information to help educate our legislators and the public about the serious

health risks of pesticide use. The Pesticide Incident form is available on the

ECHO website. If you have been injured by a pesticide or have had any bad

reactions to a pesticide application, please print out and complete a Pesticide

Incident form and mail to: ECHO - Pesticide Registry, PO BOX 8232, Berlin, CT

interested in documenting any pets that have been sickened and any plants that

may have been injured by drift from a neighbor's pesticide application This is

Organically Grown Foods Higher In Cancer-fighting Chemicals Than

Conventionally Grown Foods. American Chemical Society. 3-04-03. " Fruits and

grown organically show significantly higher levels of cancer-fighting

antioxidants than conventionally grown foods, according to a new study of corn,

strawberries and marionberries. The research suggests that pesticides and

herbicides

actually thwart the production of phenolics - chemicals that act as a

Organic Food Has More Healthy Compounds -US Report - Fri Mar 7,10:06 PM ET.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Organically grown crops contain more healthy

compounds than conventional crops, perhaps because they are not exposed to

pesticides, U.S. researchers reported on Friday. Tests on organically and

sustainably

grown berries and corn showed they contain up to 58 percent more

polyphenolics, compounds that act as antioxidants and may protect cells against

damage

that can lead to heart disease and cancer. Organic food is grown without

chemical pesticides or fertilizers. Sustainably grown food is grown without

artificial pesticides. FULL STORY at:

Is Organic Food Provably Better? by Marian Burros. In the debate over

whether organic food is better than conventionally raised food, advocates for

organic produce say it contains fewer harmful chemicals and is better for the

earth, and some claim that it is more nutritious. And recent preliminary

evidence

suggests that the levels of certain nutrients, especially vitamin C, some

minerals and some polyphenols - naturally occurring antioxidants that may help

bolster the immune system - are higher in organically grown crops.

Termite Extermination

U. of Iowa Experimenting With Non-Chemical Termite Treatment. by Brad

Harbison. 7/9/2003

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa is experimenting with a

non-chemical way to stop termite infestations on campus buildings. The

university has

been researching a new method in which crushed limestone is used to prevent

termite infestations. According to University of Iowa Entomologist Bob Setter,

before a building is constructed, the university will be placing a six-inch

layer of crushed limestone under concrete and up sidewalls, creating a physical

barrier. Setter said termites can't tunnel through the limestone and the

rocks are large enough that the pests can't move them.
