Guest guest
The Chinese " Tai-Chi " or some Yoga ('Prana' is a good start=breathing exercises). SIMPLY TAKING A WALK can lower BP; it doesn't have to be miles: walk to breathlessness & perspiration, then stop. That's enough. All these are great! Unfortunately, Hi BP doesn't go away; it becomes 'controlled'...you MUST listen to your body; you've been given a signal, now listen to it. If that doesn't control it, DO take the medicine! ************************************** , " slvanriper " <slvanriper wrote: > > My mom is going to be 63 and when she went into have her check up, her > blood pressure was 150 over 90. Guest guest
To get an accurate reading, B/P needs to be taken several times a day as it varies all day long. Ask her to get a B/P cuff and keep track of her B/P daily. Walking is one of the best things you can do to lower B/P........30-45 minutes a day. It would also help with her stress levels. A diet rich in fruits, veggies, Omega3's and monosaturate fats would help greatly. She will want to start reading all labels on foods to insure there are no hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated fats in the products, no monsodium gluconate, aspartane, hydrolyzed yeast incorporated in the foods. Though 150/90 B/P is fairly high, mine can spike that level if I am stressed, upset, eaten something high in sodium or not had enough potassium in my diet. Incidentally, the recommended daily level of potassium one needs to consume is 3500mgs. daily. Most of us get less than a 1/3 of the recommended level in our diets daily. , " slvanriper " <slvanriper wrote: > > My mom is going to be 63 and when she went into have her check up, her > blood pressure was 150 over 90. Guest guest
Shelley Part of the wellness program is diet and supplements. These are the " Queen " . A more important part is exercise or the " King " . Both are necessary. One can observe an Olympic athlete. There has never been one to " eat " their way to a medal. They can take all the supplements they want and all the organic food they can eat but they will not win by just what goes into their mouths. Conversely, there are numerous athletes that eat junk food and do well because of their fitness regimen. Yoga is excellent for balancing BP. Pranayams are great for relaxation. Meditation balances the mind, which in turn affects the BP. It would be well to find a good yoga teacher. Brisk walking is also great. Brisk is the key word. The arms need to swing like a cross country skier would ski. There is also a BP point located on the shoulder in front, where the arm meets the shoulder. Press that point. Almost everyone I know does not like to have that point stimulated because it hurts. Guggulu is a good ayurvedic remedy for BP. You can even get more specific formulations of guggulu if you know the person's Ayurvedic dosha. Guest guest
My sister is 60 years young and has had HBP for some years now ... she is taking (1) Atenol, which is a beta-blocker (2) Amlodipine, which is a calcium channel blocker (3) Irbesartan & Hydrochlorothiazide, which is a combined Angiotensin blocker and a diuretic. They have damaged her Kidneys and is now seeing a Renal consultant. Having researched these toxic meds on the ww I have come to the conclusion that the damage was done by the Irbesartan/Hydrochlorothiazide. Ray. Guest guest
She needs to take Vitamin D! Also magnesium and potassium. If she is overweight she needs to lose weight. IF she is a soda drinker cut it out. In fact, cut out processed foods as much as she can. There are also herbs which help to lower blood pressure... but I am not versed in herbs. You can google that for information. Perhaps find a good naturopath in your area to advise.
