Hello, I am new to this group and I was looking at the file, " Psychiatric symptoms caused by common drugs " and I noticed that one of the medications I had stopped a few months ago was listed. It was the beta-blocker Atenolol. Now I am only 22 years old and I had only been on a small dosage of Atenolol for a few months. I felt I was incorrectly treated as they were given for panic attacks. I did my research and decided to take myself off of it. I did so gradually of course. Now my question is, since I took this medication before, do the symptoms that came along with it still exist with me? I have been living with depression, hypochondria, and anxiety since I was a young teenager.. Meet people who discuss and share your passions. Guest guest
I was prescribed the beta blocker Inderal many years ago. I recall the effects as a slowdown in memory recovery- one says “duh†a lot in between words. One of the other effects I noticed was that I became fearless- when a situation arose which normally provoked the feelings of a rapidly beating heart, increased breathing, etc all of a sudden didn’t produce those fear associated physical reactions anymore. I didn’t like the slowed thinking and didn’t take it long. Other friends said the same, and nicknamed it “ enditall.†In between decades I have seen it used in psychiatric clinic settings to control anxiety related physical symptoms to assist with drug withdrawl or other anxiety/panic problems. And, most of the folks I know and myself included, pretty much went back to normal after the inderal cleared out of our systems…and the only long term damage I have heard of or read about concerned heart valve problems; and that in folks that had taken it for lengthy periods. (More importantly, I noticed Alobar is asking the appropriate question about diet and intake) Michael On Behalf Of rajen babu Friday, May 16, 2008 2:44 AM Re: << >> RE: Psychiatric symptoms caused by common drugs? this medicine is given for high blood pressure control. do u have the problem. dosage is important. it gives some problems as per one's constitution. i have to change when my ankles are swollen and headache. loxian.amaranth < loxian.amaranth <loxian.amaranth%40> > <%40> Friday, 16 May, 2008 12:47:36 AM << >> RE: Psychiatric symptoms caused by common drugs?
