Has anyone had had any success using rhodiola as an

anti-depressant?I've had severe depression for at least 16 years and

originally self-medicated with caffiene in the day and alcohol in the

evening.I tried various ssri's and they had terrible mental and

physical side-fx.I sometimes use water soluble vitamins eg c and

b's,and tried st johns wort in the 90's a few times although it was

300mg a day and not the 3 x 300mg I have read about in the last few

years.I've also read about rhodiola's use as well.I know about using

exercise as well, although when so depressed that I can't go outside

the idea of jogging a few miles is not happening.

As far as exercise, only commit to what you can and will do. Even a

few blocks to start out is okay. Don't shoot for the moon right

away. It has to be workable on a daily basis.

GB,

I don't know what your age is, but I went round and round with

depression for years when I use to go to main stream doctors. These

were some of the things that were part of my problem:

1. thyroid---I went undiagnosed for several years until I couldn't

get out of bed. The doctor I saw at the time gave me

antidepressants.

2. iron--- I was low on iron and my doctor at the time didn't know

3. vitamin B6 and B12

4. rhodiola

5. magnesium--this helps with many things--

6. calcium

7. arginine in the morning

8. ornithine at night

I would suggest you find a doctor that will check your blood for

mineral and vitamin deficiencies. Also, have your hormones

checked. If you are low on estrogen, supplementation at the correct

dose will help.

It took me a while before I could finally get my energy levels where

they should be. I just kept going in to have several blood tests

and even a urine test. I am grateful for my doctor.

Thanks for the info but I don't think it is meant for me. I do not

have depression. I responded to someone else who wanted info.
