Recently I had the pleasure of participating in the EFT Masters Showcase

conference in Boston. Mass. –– an exciting event where I had a chance to

share

some of my latest discoveries about EFT and meet many of the readers of this

newsletter. Your warmth and enthusiasm was incredibly heartening. I found

this to be a truly exceptional experience of togetherness for those who love

EFT.

At this meeting a woman came up to me who had tried the " I Can’t Get to

Sleep " technique (see the newsletter archives for the original article if you

missed it by going to _www.MasteringEFT.com_ (http://www.MasteringEFT.com) and

clicking on Back Issues of Newsletter) and told me that unfortunately she was

one of the 15% of the people who answered the survey who simply didn't

respond to this technique. As you may recall, 85% of those who tried it

reported

positive results in our informal poll and the large majority of them were

highly enthusiastic about their results. This was such a valuable experience,

in

fact, that I am still getting email from people who greatly appreciate this

technique, some of them people who had chronic insomnia for many years.

The woman who approached me had tried diligently to use the " I Can't Get to

Sleep " technique but it was simply not working for her. Upon questioning I

discovered that her problem was actually not getting to sleep but staying

asleep. She told me she would wake up repeatedly during the night and that this

had been a long-standing problem for her.

Obviously the phrase " I Can't Get to Sleep " had no relevance for her in this

context, since she was going to be several days at the conference, I

suggested that she try a different phrase and report back to me the next day on

whether or not it had been useful. She agreed to do so.

The next day she reported to me that the first phrase that she tried simply

didn't work, but she agreed to try still a different one the next night. The

new phrase we developed was, " I can't stay asleep. " She was to repeat it to

herself mentally at each tapping point as she lay in bed before sleep onset

and see what happened during the night that followed. I told her however that

quite frankly I had no idea whether it would work or not since there was a

large difference between saying, " I can’t get to sleep " when dealing with

sleep

onset, which is an immediate occurrence, than saying " I can’t stay asleep "

which would be targeting a delayed reaction. I warned her that this phrase

might even go in the opposite direction and implant a suggestion that she could

not stay asleep, making her sleep worse than before, but she wanted to try it

because of the distress that this condition was causing her.

The next day she reported to me that, to her own surprise, she had obtained

excellent results using this new phrase and had been able to sleep through

the night in an unusually restful and uninterrupted fashion after tapping on

his new phrase. I saw her once again near the end of the conference and she was

still reporting these positive results.

I suggest therefore that if you experience repeated awakenings during the

night that you may want to try this technique. If so, simply repeat the phrase

" I can't stay asleep " mentally at each tapping point before you drift off to

sleep at night. Then watch what it does for you.

If it works as well for a number of our readers as it apparently did for

this woman we will have discovered another useful way to use EFT for sleep

difficulties.

If you try this, I would greatly appreciate your reporting the results of

your mini-experiment by writing to me at drpat123. I will then report

back to the rest of you these results in a future newsletter.
