If you want to make dramatic improvement in your health in 2008, Dr. Chris

Meletis, ND, recommends four simple laboratory tests before embarking on your

health journey. Meletis tells his patients, " Tests Don't Guess. "

Organic Acid Testing

Because we are all biochemically unique, we all have different nutritional

needs. Urinary organic acid testing is a crucial step in determining exactly

which nutrients your body needs.

Organic acids are compounds produced within the body in the course of

metabolism. Metabolism determines state of health and is the result of a

combination of: genes, nutrition, lifestyle, attitude and other environmental

factors.

By identifying your metabolic problems, you can begin a targeted nutritional

program to significantly improve your results.

Saliva Hormone Testing

Saliva testing is an easy, noninvasive, and reliable way of assessing

bioavailable hormone status - the clinically relevant portion which the body

can

actually use.

Men and women of any age, even children, who are having symptoms of hormone

imbalances, such as fatigue, insomnia, stress and immunity, should be tested.

Men and women over 40 may want to do a baseline test.

The five hormones monitored through saliva testing are testosterone,

progesterone, estrogen (estradiol), cortisol and DHEA. Hormones levels often

become

imbalanced through aging and stress.

One often underrated hormone, for both women and men, is testosterone. The

decline in male testosterone, commonly referred to as andropause, often

begins in the 30s and eventually peaks, when symptoms are unmistakable, in the

50s

and 60s.

Low testosterone levels in men are linked to low energy, decreased libido

and concentration, insomnia, night sweats, depression, and, even hot flashes.

Males, especially with excess abdominal fat, should monitor estrogen levels

since abdominal fat can often convert testosterone into excess estrogen,

causing significant health issues.

Food Allergy Testing

Food Allergy Testing is one of my most important clinical tools to uncover

hidden factors affecting patients' health. Patients will often deny having

food allergies because they are unaware of IgG food allergies/sensitivities,

which by definition are, hidden and delayed. As a physician, it is difficult

to design a nutritional program for patients without knowing if they have any

hidden food allergies.

ELISA immunoassay testing, with a simple fingerstick, can identify low,

moderate or high reactions to 96 of the most commonly eaten foods.

Iodine Sufficiency Test

Thyroid disorders are becoming epidemic in this country. Weight gain, mood

swings, thinning hair and other symptoms can be caused by hypothyroidism.

Noted iodine expert Dr. Guy Abraham has established a link between iodine

deficiency and both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.

A user-friendly, oral loading test and collecting urine for 24 hours can

detect iodine deficiencies.

Conclusion

Organic acid, salivary hormone, food allergy, and iodine sufficiency testing

can help guide you on your journey to optimal health in 2008!
