Guest guest
Does anyone have any suggestions for losing weight and keeping blood sugar low? I have tried a few things, but they were a waste of money (coconut oil ?, some type of amino acid pill, etc.).

Guest guest
Get Henry Bieler's book, " Food is your best medicine " read the paragraph on Diabetes on page 169. Here's what he says: " In treating adult diabetics I have been able to control sugar in the urine by diet alone....I place the patient on a cleaner diet. The most valuable regime for the diabetic is a vegetable diet-cooked, non-starchy vegetables and vegetable soups. My aim is to aid the depleted pancreas, whose chief chemical element is a potassium-compound. So the potassium rich vegetables are of special value. If the potassium level can be built up, this not only rebuilds the pancreas but neutralizes a great deal of the acidity which is always in the background in diabetes. The best way to handle a diabetic case, I have found, is to take him off insulin and to put him to bed. If the patient will not accept this and the rather rigorous diet, then I am powerless to help. The diet consists of lightly cooked non-starchy vegetables, like celery, parsley, zucchini and string beans, liquified in a blender and used as a soup. The patient remains on this until the urine becomes sugar-free by test. He stays in bed to conserve his energy in order to give the liver and the pancreas every possible chance to do their work unmolested from the acids of exertion. It may take from one day to four days or more to get the patient sugar-free. He is allowed then to resume his normal activities while following a fairly careful diet; he is watched to see how long it takes to develop sugar again. When this happens, he is once again " fasted " in bed on the vegetable soup. Generally then it takes half the length of time to get him sugar-free. What I work for is an ideal diet for his particular case which will maintain him sugar-free and still give him enough energy to do a cerain amount of work. " More information on diabetes from another book: " The biggest culprit seems to be polyunsaturated oil. Studies have shown that when polyunsaturated fats from the diet are incorporated into cellular structure, the cell's ability to bind with insulin decreases, thus lowering their ability to get glucose. In other words, the cell membrane which allows glucose to enter into the cell degrade when too much polyunsaturated oil is consumed in the diet. Insulin is then unable to get to cells. Polyunsaturated oils are easily oxidized and damaged by free radicals. Fats of all types, including polyunsaturated fats in the cell membrane can adversely affect the cell's function, including its ability to allow hormones, gluecose, and other substances to flow in and out of the cell. Therefore, a diet high in refined polyunsaturated vegetable oils promotes diabetes. Most oils used to cook animals' dry and canned foods are polyunsaturated vegetable oils. The only fat that diabetics can eat without fear is coconut oil. Not only does it not contribute to diabetes, but it helps regulate blood sugar, thus lessening the effects of the disease. Research has shown that coconut oil improve insulin secretion and utilization of blood glucose. Coconut oil added to a diet enhances insulin action and improves binding affinity compared to other oils. One of the consequences of diabetis is a lack of energy. This is due to the inability of cells to get needed glucose. Without the glucose to power cellular activity, metabolism slows down and the entire body becomes tired. Coconut oil raises metabolic rate causing the body to burn up more calories and thus it also promotes weight loss. " In short, you have to do a 100% lifesytle change. You need to do what Bieler said in his book for a few days and test your sugar level after that. Carol
Guest guest
You may want to use cinnamon powder or sticks with dried mulberry leaves steeped as tea. Take after each meal. But of course, you have to take the diabetic diet. No carbs if possible and definitely no sugar. Fenugreek also is a potent diabetic remedy, but one has to be careful as this can really drop your blood sugar. Melly
Guest guest
Kenn, I do know so. I tried it myself when i learened that fenugreek was effective in bringing down blood glucose. However, i found it too strong, got hypoglycemia and needed to drink a lot of orange juice til my glucose was stabilized. I normally take moringa tea (from frozen leaves) with cinnamon sticks and mulberry leaves. I dropped the mulberry leaves as it made my stomach acidic. I now just take moringa oleifera tea with cinnamon sticks and add cayenne pepper (for overall good health). I take this at least four times a day. My blood glucose is now stabilized. However, when i can't resist sweets, then i add a pinch of fenugreek to my tea...just a pinch and i actually feel my blood sugar coming down but to a safe level. Moringa oleifera frozen leaves may be purchased from Filipino stores or Asian/Chinese Groceries. It is called drumstick/malunggay/horseradish leaves. Guest guest
Hi, my other half is diabetic, I got him started on coconut oil, he felt so much better, then I got Dr. Bernsteins book on diabetes, he recommends no sugars, as in no carbs also and that you can control you BS levels and keep them level even when you eat if you follow his plan. Even following it loosely helps a lot and then I did research on whey. I had originally been looking for a high protein, low cal light fruity drink vs a heavy milky smoothie something for myself to help maintain my weight, it has been great for both of us.. You can get a lot of different wheys at health food stores or the Vitamin Shoppe, they seem to have the best selection of the low cal ones, many of the ones you see are for body builders and bulking up and are high in calories. I also found an unflavored one so I could then add it to anything including my morning coffee. A 2 lb container will be anywhere from 30 - 40 dollars. Because it is a high protein it helps your body burn long, low and slow and stops the peaks and valleys, it also will and can replace a good amount of food and when used between meals will more than satisfy you. The protein helps keep your metabolism working longer and hence you will burn more calories and less fat will be stored. He has lost 20 - 23 lbs in 3 months, he is down around 196 now. The coconut oil also helps, but we have found it harder to incorporate by following Bernsteins diet since we have cut out almost all breads, crackers etc, he does have a piece of light wheat toast in the morning and we really slaver on the coconut oil, it also helps with metabolism is an anti-fungal anti-viral oil and has many other health benefits, there is a coconut oil forum here on . I massage the oil on his legs and feet, helps keep things nice and healthy and the massage helps keep circulation well. BUT you must buy a no heat virgin, un-refined oil, it should run you 20-25 dollars for 54 oz's.
