Hi Gail

If your mother is not overweight or has a quite physical job

disregard this, but if you notice that that there is a high

correlation of overweight/obesity and knee problems.

Please get her a book on Dr Sears zone diet (try the library or

google Abes books).

No more cortisone. They just prepare you for thinking that surgery is

the final option as the pain still isn't going away.

Some have had relief from a gold shot. An MRI would be a good thing

to do to see if anything is torn.

A tincture from fresh Comfrey root rubbed on externally is great for knee pain.

My mother who is 82 uses it and has pain free knees. I have many people using it

on their knees with great results. If you would like to try it I can send you a

contact for the tincture.

Below is what I have sent to those who have inquired privately about Comfrey

tincture. I also have a good amount of it in 2 OZ bottles and can part with some

bottles if someone wants to email me privately it is $15 a bottle plus shipping

or order from the link below. The tincture I made is from the fall root. I do

not have any oil or salve but will be making it when the snow is off the ground,

I will say the salve made from this plant smells like very strong cheese. I was

reluctant to announce that I have it, I generally make plant medicine for my

family members and close friends. But some times I have more than I need.

The tincture is made from the root of the Comfrey plant (Symphytum officinale).

The plant should be over two years old. In the spring before the leaves are very

big, say as big as a rabbits ears, dig the plant and take the root. Wash it to

get the dirt off but if there is a black coating on the root do not scrub that

off. Cut the root up to slices as thin as carrots for soup and put in glass jar

that has a tight lid. Cover with a good brandy and shake this at least three

times a week. In two months you will have the tincture. Strain through cheese

cloth or a cotton cloth and press as much liquid from your root as you can.

Store in a jar with a tight lid. The plant will recover from digging, there will

be pieces of root still in the ground and if it is big you will not need to take

all the root. I keep three patches of comfrey in my garden so I can alternate

which I dig each year. You can make the tincture in the fall or spring, if fall

you wait until the frost has killed the plant. Not knowing where you live, you

may not be able to grow this plant? I do not know if it is a tincture you can

find at a health food store but you can order it from these people.

http://www.passamaquoddymedicine.info/index.html the email addy is at the bottom

of the page.

A oil can be made too from the root. That is done with the spring root. Prepare

as above but put the root in Extra Virgin Olive oil and heat gently, may a very

low crock-pot, for a day and strain. Then make the salve as you would with any

plant. Also there are directions for salve making on the internet so I do not

need to describe this.

Directions for use - External use - Massage small amount into affected areas

3x/day. A tingling sensation to the skin may occur. If this is uncomfortable,

dilute up to 50% with brandy or mix tincture and spring water in hand with each

use.

Use Comfrey tincture on your skin, external use only. Put small amount of the

tincture in your hand and rub on sore or bruised area. Rub in one direction,

downward is always best. Do not rub back and forth. It will be wet, then tacky,

and then become smooth. Rub until it is smooth. When it is smooth all the

tincture is rubbed in. Use Comfrey for rheumatism and swelling of joints Also

for injuries, sore muscles, swollen and painful joints, arthritis, bruises and

swellings.

I know many people who have had very good results using this tincture for knees.

For some it has even prevented recommended surgery.

Did she ever serverly injure her knee? like banged up on something or

maybe a accident? That could account for some things and could be

making it worse. But maybe it'll just take some time for her treatment

with the doctor to make it work. Good luck!
