Are there any substitutes for anti-coagulant drugs?

My uncle is on one as a precaution and has decided

he'd rather risk not taking it than the side effects

it's giving him. Are there any natural remedies to

prevent blood clots? Thanks Dave

Hi All! I am reminded of the time I worked with a doctor of TCM, and

some tiny pills---probably herbal---was given to a patient, who had

blood clots. The best his physician could reccommend was isolating the

clot, with some sort of plug on either side of it. The TCM pills were

an alternative, and the patient is still around---a clot to the brain

or heart can be fatal. If there's a TCM doctor practicing in your

area, a consult might well be worth the effort. I'm sure it was a

patent medicine, so it should be easily available. We have a big

Cinatown here, and no shortage of herbalists in the TCM field. Steve

You could try Bromelain - It reduces blood clotting and thrombosis and

dissolves clots

also fish oils (Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids) and Vitamin E

Although your uncle should not just stop his medication. Perhaps he

needs to consult with a naturopathic doctor or nutritionist.

Dave,

Try natto, a fermented soy product, or nattokinase, the enzyme in natto.

Japanese researchers have shown that 100 grams of natto exhibits the same

fibrinolytic activity as a therapeutic dose of urokinase. While an injection of

urokinase is effective for 20 minutes at most, nattokinase maintains its

activity for four to eight hours. (Acta Haematol 90;84:139-143) (Hemorheology

and Related Research Vol. 5(1):43-44) (Data from Japan Functional Food Research

Assoc.)
