Has anyone ever heard of these? On another board I'm on it was recommended

for depression, among other things. If anyone has any information or experience

with it I'd like to hear about it. Thanks.

Neuroreplete (http://www.chknutrition.com/NeuroReplete/index.html )

appears to be proteins with a few vitamins thrown in. The

5-hydroxytyphtophan (5-HTP) is the precursor to the neurotransmitter

serotonin and the natural alternative to SSRIs (Prozac, Lexapro, etc.)

L-tyrosine is the precursor to the family of neurotransmitter that

include norepinephrine and dopamine. At least one study claims the

lysine, the third protein in the product, is heavily depleted during

stress.

So, yes, this formula is probably pretty good for depression, but I

would take the individual components separately to make sure you need

them all. The SSRI family of drugs are not technically addictive, but

if a user stops them cold turkey serious symptoms often result. Read

The Antidepressant Solution by Dr. Glenmullen. 5-HTP isn't as strong

as the synth drugs but should be taken in a similar manner.

Also everyone is different with some people requiring various amounts

of each of the proteins. With three different brain systems being

affected, I would be wary. Try each separately over different periods

of time and perhaps at lower doses. I buy 50mg capsules of 5-HTP.

On one hand these are all amino acids we normally eat. On the other

hand, altering brain chemistry is not something to be taken lightly.

A Naturopath wanted me to take these and I did for about a month. I

had to stop because they were very expensive, about $124 per month! I

wasn't taking them for depression, but for a combination of

complaints. I never really felt any different but then again, I only

took them for a month.
