I have been on Zoloft for 14 yr, for severe depression, post tramatic

stress, panic attacks, SAD, PMSD, fibromyalgia. I take Klonipin for

insomnia & panic attacks. I know I need to detox my body, & about

herbs, teas, & supplements. I also eat the cabbage soup 1 a month.(my

kids call it mom's PMS soup, & they eat it too.) I need a plan & time

frame, from start to finish, while I'm weaning my way off these meds.

Does anyone have any personal experiences, they would like to share.

Thanks Dawn from Ohio.

You should find a doctor who will switch you to valium, then do a slow

taper down until you're off the benzos. Here's a great website:

I would suggest doing yoga and also aerobic exercise like running,

sports or cross country skiing.

Hi Dawn,

I just weaned myself off of Effexor and Seroquel. While it wasn't the easiest

thing I've ever done, I can't tell you how much better I'm feeling. I had been

taking both for many years, and prior to taking that combination, I was taking

many different combinations. 16 years worth! Anyway, I went from 150 mgs. of

Effexor down to 75 mgs. and then down to 37.5 mgs. When I hit 37.5 mgs., I

began taking one every other day. Then one every 2nd day. Then I just quit. I

had about 2 weeks of withdrawal symptoms, but nothing that was too troubling.

Going off of the Seroquel was more difficult because it helped me sleep at

night. I hadn't slept on my own without meds for 16 years. Well, after 2 weeks

of HORRIBLE sleep (maybe 1-2 hours per night), I'm finally sleeping like a baby.

I'm able to fall asleep, and if something wakes me, I'm able to fall back

asleep. I never thought I'd see the day! Here's all the changes I've made:

1. Totally different diet. Mainly low-carb, but I do eat grains and any fruit

I want. NO SUGAR at all. The only thing I drink is tea (decaf) and water.

2. I'm exercising daily. I go to Curves 3-4 times per week, and on my off days

I will walk my dogs for 30+ minutes.

3. I'm taking fish/flax/borage oil, a good multi-vitamin, calcium, Vitamin C,

and a hot drink of magnesium before bed.

Here's my bedtime ritual (taken from a book about insomnia):

1. DO not do anything in your bed other than sleep and sex! Reading is okay,

but only right before bed.

2. Wear a sleep mask.

3. Have a cup of Sleepytime Tea w/Valerian before bed, and a cup of magnesium

supplement mixed with hot water. Very relaxing!

4. DO NOT go to bed until you are completely exhausted.

5. If you don't fall asleep within 30 minutes, get out of bed and do something

else.

6. If you're going to take a hot bath or shower before bed, do it at least one

hour before bedtime so your body temp cools down (important for sleep).

7. Change your thought patterns about sleep. You will not die if you don't get

good sleep for awhile!! I promise!

I've got more to share, but I must run. Best of luck to you in weaning. It's

SO worth it :)

Peace,

Susan

--- Hi Dawn,

A few of the things that you may want to research are rebounding

exercise and a raw food eating plan. Also look into the wonderful

psychological benefits of consuming raw virgin coconut oil. And

plenty of non protected sunlight is excellent for ones mental

wellbeing. Let me give you an example of what I drink on a daily

basis to keep my depression at bay. After I rebound for 30 minutes,

I put frozen mixed berries, a organic banana, a hand full of organic

spinach leaves, Nopal powder, Hemp protein powder,VitaMineral Green

powder, raw cashew butter, a little agave nectar and a heaping

spoonful of the organic virgin coconut oil. I top this off with about

4 oz of reverse osmosis water and blend it. This stays with me all

morning and I feel so darn good throught the entire day when I start

it like this.

Acupuncture can help, big-time.

I used to be on Prozac and amitriptyline for about 7 years.

I started acupuncture and in three months was medication free and did

not have depression or SAD or PMS as long as I got treatments about

twice a month. When I skipped a few months I would slip a little, but

never went back to the same level I had gotten to before. I also had

been tentatively diagnosed with FMS and decided enough was enough with

the meds and diagnoses and went to acupuncture.

You probably need treatments twice a week for at least a month, then

once a week for a few months, then once a month when you feel stable.

When your energy is balanced and stagnation is removed, you will feel a

lot differently.

Thanks Susan, so far you are the one that sounds the most like me, I refused to

go higher on my dose of klonipin, so it is nothing for me to only get 1 or 2

hrs of sleep. I'm taking omega 3, DHEA, St. Johns wort, & I drink green &

blends of sleepy-time teas.

My plan, is to add into my supplements, multi vit. & mineral,

calcium/magnesium, COQ10, more fiber, chlorella, & probiotics. When you have

more time, please tell me more. Thanks, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! Dawn

Hi all,

One of the best ways to get off anti-depressants is to

slowly replace your doses of medicine with Rhodiola

rosea. It does the same thing as the anti-depressants

with out the side effects plus it stabilizers sleep

patterns and can give you more energy. I have helped

get people of paxil addiction this way and got rid of

my depressions also. You can take it as a tea or

capsules.
