Amino Acids and probiotic, yeast overgrowth questions

I would like to have my daughter's amino acid levels tested. It's over

$300 but I'm going to do it anyhow. Does anyone know if there are

forms of supplements that children can take? She is almost 5 but

doesn't swallow pills yet.

Also, is it all right to give probiotic every single day or should I

just give it for a while and stop? And does anyone have a good site to

learn from regarding yeast overgrowth and how to fix that?

Thanks so much.

Hi Kathy,

You don't say why you want your daughter's amino acid levels tested...

$300 is a lot of money for something that may be inappropriate or

unnecessary, depending on the situation...

Supplements for children: some companies offer liquid vitamins and

minerals. There is a company here in the UK (Biocare) which does a

pretty good range, so I'm sure you must have an equivalent in the US.

I'd say start by looking at your local health store or searching the

internet for " liquid vitamins and minerals " .

For example, just browsing " The Vitamin Shoppe " I found some multis

for children:

http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/search/en/query.jsp?q=liquid & l= & b= & d= & pr= & k= & ist= & p\

t=Children%27s+Multivitamins & bc=pt

However, I don't know what your daughter's situation is, so I couldn't

advise further.

Regarding probiotics, it is safe to take them everyday. However, they

can be expensive, and if one is eating a healthy whole food diet

without an excess of sugar, refined carbohydrates and excess protein,

especially animal protein, you would not likely need to take

probiotics everyday forever. For instance, as a maintenance programme

for myself, I will generally do a round of probiotics, say for a

month, and then stop for a few months. And I will do this 3 or 4

times per year.

However, if you are trying to rid yourself of Candida yeast/fungus

overgrowth, daily intake of probiotics for an extended period of time

is entirely appropriate. Natren

(http://www.natren.com/infantmain.asp) make good quality probiotics

and also have an infant's formula and powdered formulae which can be

mixed in a little non-chlorinated water or fresh juice and drunk down

(in case you are looking for a non-capsule form for your daughter).

For yeast overgrowth (Candida albicans) info ... The book " The

Practical Guide to Candida " (http://www.candida-uk.com/) is part of my

own library. And the website has a lot of good information free of

charge, including diagnosis, causes, and treatment.

There are a few tests for candida, but Dr. Crook's Questionnaire is a

good start:

http://cassia.org/candida.htm

I hope this all helps.

Regards,

Sharon

Amino acid profiles are fun to get but very difficult to implement. I

suggest you engage the services of a laboratoy that will interpret

the findings for you.
