Stop smoking’ drug: It makes you feel suicidal

A new `stop smoking' drug is making users feel suicidal. So far the

UK's drug monitoring body, the Medicines and Healthcare Products

Regulatory Authority (MHRA), has received 839 reports of adverse

reactions to the drug, Campix, which was launched last year.

 

In the US, its drug regulator, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA),

has already expressed concerns about the drug, which is manufactured by

Pfizer.

 

Early trials suggested the drug was more than twice as effective as

placebo, helping 44 per cent of smokers quit after they had taken the

drug twice a day for 12 weeks.

 

Before the suicide risk was discovered, the most common reactions to

the drug included nausea, abnormal dreams, dizziness, and vomiting.
