I have been foraging here outside the cabin the last two days for wild bergamot

(Monarda fistulosa) http://www.wildflowersmich.org/library/pages/bergamont.htm

and have the wonderful aromatic herb hanging from my cabin rafters. Also have

already tasted of this years American dittany crop (wild

oregano).......delightful!

Monarda fistula...

Growing abundantly here in northern Michigan but are hardly up yet.

fully in bloom end of August.

The natives chew on a flowerhead when they have a bad headcold, make a

very mild infusion for babies who have colic.

Makes great tea from the young plants.

Neysa,

Oklahoma does have some small mountains :-) I'm in a remote area with lots of

wonderful herbs.
