Guest guest
Hi everyone, This is a tirade about stupid and cruel people who think that declawing a cat is acceptable. Last night Pumpkin was kneading me, quite ferociously as well. I thought that he was extraordinarily gentle and careful with his claws until a terrible suspicion entered my rather weak and feeble brain. I checked out his paws and sure enough, that poor baby has no claws. I was absolutely horrified. The people at the shelter didn't catch it either. What if this poor baby had gone to a home that insisted (like my idiot husband) that cats spend part of their day outside? Well, MY idiot husband now knows that if he EVER lets that cat outside I will probably do him some serious bodily harm. And I am NOT kidding and lucky for him, he knows it. Cat declawing. There is absolutely no excuse for it. If you don't want your furniture wrecked, don't get a cat. If you are worried about your kids getting scratched, then train your kids to treat it kindly or don't get a cat. I don't care if you are planning on NEVER letting the cat out, there is simply no excuse. Declawing is a act of torture. Cats claws are not like peoples fingernails, the do not grow on top of their paws... to declaw a cat one had to cut deep into the bone. It is agonizing and the pain last for weeks after the surgery. And some assinine people will take their cat back a second time when some of the claws DO manage to grow back for another dose of this. If you have had your cat declawed, I hope its because you didn't now exactly what the procedure was and that you will NEVER EVER do it again... If you DO know what the cat goes through and you do it anyway for your own convienience, then I hope there is a special hell just for people like yourself who think that animals don't feel pain, have no feelings and who cares anyway?! This is undeniably cruel and should be outlawed. In many/most european countries this proceedure has been banned, it should be in this country as well. And, so as not to get completely off the wall and get nuts about what i think of people who treat animals like garbage, i won't add anything, God gave us dominion over animals to care for and love them, NOT to torture them and do anything else that comes to mind to them!! My animals are my children, and i would hurt anyone who even thought of abusing one of them. Most likely i'd spend some time in jail over it. Guest guest
Hi everyone, This is a tirade about stupid and cruel people who think that declawing a cat is acceptable. Well that sure aint me. furthermore, keep going with the tirade!! You sound like me. There is NO FREAKING EXCUSE to cut off part of a cats " fingers " and anyone who has it done for whatever reason should have their fingers bobbed to the first joint. My Dusty has ripped me up pretty good in her two years with us (claws and teeth both) but I have always excused it as youthful exeburance (sp). Now that she has learned the cat door she pats me instead of scratching me. It is all in understanding what your pet needs or wants. The vet told me that we should put her down for her " bad habits " but I thought it would be better to try to understand what she was saying with her behaviour. She sleeps on my feet at night now and is very much mmore affectionate than she ever was. Besides all that I would rather put a cat down than declaw it! Your next door neighbor in Pissedville. Guest guest
Ooh, cruelty to animals: one of my biggest pet peeves! And STUPID people who own animals and then don't treat them correctly (and don't even get me started on not spaying/neutering...). I'd love to have a job like on " Animal Precinct " but I think I'd have on my record that a lot of people were mysteriously shot... I hate declawing. I had an argument once with a friend in high school. " But I'm scared of cats with claws " was one of her arguments. Um, then don't get a cat? *eye roll* Your poor Pumpkin... -Kat, your other next-door-neighbor in Pissedville , WoobeyQueen@a... wrote: > Hi everyone, This is a tirade about stupid and cruel people who think that > declawing a cat is acceptable. > > Last night Pumpkin was kneading me, quite ferociously as well. Guest guest
Keep on ranting babe!! Gee, I didn't even know people where THAT stupid/cruel - declawing cats?? Get me severe shivers down my back in disgust and sympaty for these poor, poor critters... It's like some peoples need to take part of dogs ears or tails of (don't know the English word, here it's called " kupera " ) to " enhance " the poor dogs look. Well, no improvement from my point of view - not to any kind of breed. Imagine my cute sweet Fiona without her wagging tail?? And pleasse, don't come ttell me that it's done out of kindness to the animal, cause their tails are sooo fragile. I have heard people say that about dobermans.... ALTHOUGH... Some working dogs, those who actually are used for the purpose for which they have been bred, I have known some of those dog's who have damaged their tails so badly that they have needed their tails to be " amputated " - which is what it really is. BUT these examples are so few and far between that it really doesn't make sense of the arguement... gotta have your dogs tail docked... Algie, my dog, is a breed that is supposed to have his tail docked. It's an esthetic thing. I asked the breeder NOT to have that done and she was at a point where she didn't want to do it anymore anyway! One of the silliest excuses I have ever heard for having Schnoodles " docked " was that if you didn't, the hair around their anus would grow into the skin causing the animal to have surgery... I have yet to hear from any vet who said that they had even HEARD of hair turning around and growing back INTO the skin... besides, even if it WERE remotely possible, My Algie carries his tail high and proud and it's not a factor at all... I would be more worried about sheep dogs, or golden retrievers and the like... walking fur balls! And yet no one has complained about the fur turning around and growing back into the skin THERE! There be some mighty stupid people out there... mighty stupid. K Cheers!
