Guest guest
Hi Diana of Dewberry Hill: A few of my favorite vanilla bean ideas is to simply place one in my sugar canister. The sugar absorbs the heavenly aroma of the vanilla bean. Use it for baking, coffee, hot cocoa, etc. I also infuse a few in oil to be used in a premium soap that I make. Split the pod in half lengthwise, scrape the insides (which are actually the vanilla beans) out and put it all in a glass mason jar. Fill with a carrier oil, place in a warm, sunny window, shake daily for about 2 - 3 weeks. I make a vodka infusion with fresh pineapple and vanilla beans. I'm going to make quite a bit of it to give away as gifts. Lastly, I just received a recipe for Limoncello, an Italian liquer that I'm dying to make. LMK if you'd like the recipe. Vanilla beans are extremely versatile, although don't store them in the fridge - they develop mold. Keep them in an airtight container, ziploc, mason jar and the like. Anyone else with Vanilla Bean ideas? Carmen
Guest guest
Hmm, I have kept my Bourbon vanilla pods in the fridge for 2 years now, in double ziplock bags - and no mold on them at all. Maybee I'm just plain lucky? Limoncello - that sound like something I just want to try. Any hope of sharing the recipe?? Fragrant Blessings, Ylva

Guest guest
I've made vanilla extract, countless confection recipes including puddings, cakes, whipped cream, etc .... Carrie over at Scent Garden makes an AWESOME vanilla bean infused Jojoba oil. It knocked my socks off when I smelled it! And that can be used in all sort of toiletries such as creams, lotions, massage oils, etc ... As Carmen mentioned, vanilla sugar is absolutely awesome, and oh so easy to make ... I'll have to dig up and post some good vanilla recipes. IMHO it is overwhelming the amount of things one can do with vanilla *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com
