this looks like a smaller and not so fancy version of the microplaner you

guys have been talking about, its a wood rasp, same deal actually a

woodworking tool -

it is outstanding for zest, great idea for the waxes as well, guess i will

get another one! this is an amazing catalog by the way for gadgets and

tools, they have japanese pruning saws that are incredible, lots of japanese

knives, toy items for kids are also outstanding and reasonably priced. i

found them through looking for those darn little tiny jar things with glass

lids that come in a box, for holding screws and stuff, martha stewart had

them for two or three times the price -

just joined this list, recognize many from perfumery, toiletries etc... to

introduce myself, my husband and i have a massage center with body

treatments, make our own aaromatherapy blend oils and various other not too

complicated stuff (goatsmilk bath is my latest), sell in our retail

location, starting to do some wholesale and sales to bodywork professionals.

we live in montauk ny a paradise on earth (there are a few pics on our

site under " staff pics " i think..) but unfortunately unable to support most

yearround businesses (summer resort and " sport fishing capital of the

world " ) so i translate and bookkeep (ha...!) for others, he works at the

stables, etc to make ends meet. we both came to the world of eos late in

life through work and are utterly self taught if you can even call it that,

well hope to contribute a few tidbits here and there =

Well now this is something! I was JUST watching QVC (hubby hides the telephone

when I start watching that show!) and they had a set of two of these guys. I

was shocked at how much hard cheese and zest one could produce with no skinned

knuckles!!!

That's the exact model I got from leevalley.com years ago (the one I lost

:-( It is slightly wider than the ones I replaced it with (from QVC), but

they have handles.

It's also great for nutmeg, ginger, cheese and chocolate. My new 'ribbon'

model makes chocolate curls.

Leevalley is great. I did a websearch years ago, when I found out Crazy Old

Martha Stewart had the planes for $18! They charged around $8, IIRC. Maybe

they look at Martha's site, and decide to sell the goodies at a reasonable

price.

So, speaking of tools, I've been wanting a soap planer or jeweler to

trim the edges of my handcut soaps. I'm wondering...... could I just

buy the blade and have hubby build one? Or does anyone know where to

get one at a decent price?

Try www.forcraftssake.com. They have a nice one for very inexpensive. It

doesn't waste a lot of soap, but it does a nice job and the bars are nice

and even. I've tried potato peelers and others, but I like this one the

best. Cindy
