If you are selling handmade products that have not been formally tested for safety and such then you are required by the FDA to put the following on your labels. Warning: The safety of this product has not been determined.<<<<<<<<< OMG! Are you serious? Geez, that makes it sound so, so, dangerous! I mean, who would want to buy that? How about this as a thought.....what if the INGREDIENTS used in the product HAVE had formal safety testing? (by someone else) Would it be exempt from this sort of warning? >I personally use information similar to what you >have above. I consider it a part of my safety >program and my insurance company insisted on some >safety warnings before they would issue my >policy. > >On all of my blends I place the following: > >Keep away from eyes and muscous membranes. Do >skin patch test by applying small amount on the >inside of elbow. If burning, irritation or >redness occur discontinue use. > >I also list ALL my ingredients including every >last essential oil because I have run across >people who are allergic to such essential oil of >lemon, grapefruit and even eucalyptus. This is actually a must on products and they must be in order of predominance.<<<<<<<<<< Makes me think of something else....there is a supplier (very well respected) who sells many, many oils, in addition to his own blends. In regards to the blends, he lists the first few oils in the blend, then adds " and other oils " . I imagine he does so for proprietory reasons, so nobody will try to copy, but it's always sort of bugged me a bit because of the allergy issue. Some individuals can't use certain oils, and would need to know all oils involved in a blend, no? Just stirring the pot a bit, I guess. A couple years ago I was on the Cosmeticinfo list, and those cosmetic chemists scared me away from selling my own products! But the urge to do so has never left....but I don't want to " damage " someone with one of my products and have them sue me for everything and take my first-born son.
