Hey David,

I agree with that position .. and .. I didn't really disagree with your

original post .. or Martin's comments. I was just exercising a bit of

contrariness of my own .. being ornery to make a point which I think

might have been missed cause a couple'a friends wrote me off line and

asked what I was disagreeing with. ;-)

When we disagree with something .. to include the basic foundations of

the practice of aromatherapy in the USA or Europe .. or the production

and quality and/or safety of essential oils .. or how they are used ..

its our responsibility to tell them WHY we are disagreeing. Simply

saying that there is no God cause you can't prove it in a lab is not

sufficient .. same with other contrarian ideas in this industry. There

is enough confusion now so added confusion is not needed.

This is the only business I have been in that is not accepted as being

credible and useful by the overall population .. and its frustrating at

times because I want to bring some logic into the convoluted equation.

That's not possible if we begin from a position that the product should

not be used as it has not been tested by the friggin cosmetics/perfume

industry using whatever assets they have at their disposal. If that is

to be a valid position then most of the information following such a

position is nothing but fruit from a poison tree. :-(

> And Natural = Good = Safe to someone who doesn't know any better.

Yep. :-)

Agree. :-)

Totally agree .. just as my new labels indicate (and I also warn in

writing on the confirmation of an order) about the toxicity of ingesting

Pennyroyal. But otherwise I do as other folks do. I cover my butt with

catch all statements like:

Keep out of the reach of children. Which I DO believe in.

External Use Only. Which I do NOT always agree with .. and I often get

notes from buyers asking if mine is not the Therapeutic Grade that can

be ingested? As are YL oils. ;-)

Finally .. the number one butt covering statement .. which I DO NOT

believe in but feel a need to provide anyway .. " Pregnant women or

people with health problems should consult their doctor before using any

non-doctor prescribed or natural product. "

Is this not a DUMB statement? See the friggin quack afore you use

anything natural or not doctor prescribed? Of course it is dumb!

But the makers of Ben Gay and the other anti-pain ointments filled with

Methyl salicylate also cover their butts with a statement that if pain

persists beyond X number of days the user should stop using the

preparation and consult a physician. They know that most users know

they have a chronic condition and will NOT stop. Just as I know nobody

is gonna check with a quack afore using my oils or any natural product.

> There's some really crazy/creative/hopeful/insane people out there.

> Sometimes the difference is only perspective.

You are young to have picked up on that so soon .. and I salute you for

your powers of observation. It normally takes folks a lot more living

to understand this about the human race. ;-)

> A few years ago I though people in AT were lonely unhappy little

> candle sniffers. (grin!)

Some new folks are sorta like that .. we see them come on with the most

idealistic, esoteric descriptions of why they want to use EO and now

they want to learn all there is about them from one post .. when I see

such a post I think that this is possibly an bad accident waiting to

happen .. especially if they are YL'ers.

> Yes, people need to be responsible for themselves, and ignorance

> isn't and excuse under the law. But this isn't the law, and I want

> to do my best keep people from harming themselves. If I was on a

> Jury, I might have a different opinion.

Actually .. I believe we are somewhat (potentially) legally and totally

morally responsible to do our best (within logical limitations) to

ensure that smart folks and those who might be careless do not make

unnecessary mistakes with our products .. and I accept that there is

only so far we can go.

> Thanks for the nice comments from Martin and Chris.

They were very nice. What about mine .. here? ;-) Again, I was just

pulling your leg and poking a stick at my buddy Martin . I will add

that the flavor (or is that flavour?) of his postings has improved 300%

or more in the last year of so .. those who didn't know Martin in years

past would not have accepted that the same dude was posting. ;-)

Martin is a troll sometimes .. but a damn smart troll. He has perhaps

the finest archives of anyone in the business .. and I'm not talking of

the very small but valuable bit of information on his web site under

Articles Archives. He has research materials that are HUNDREDS of years

old and in a few cases translated materials that are over a THOUSAND

years old .. and he spends a great amount of time researching in this

and that library in the UK .. check his articles archive out at the

following URL .. http://www.aromamedical.com/

And remember that he is a troll. ;-)
