Guest guest
With all of the talk about books, I wanted to ask for some opinions. I already know how Martin feels. LOL! ;-) These are the books I have inherited: The Complete Book of Essential Oils by Valerie Ann Worwood; Aromatherapy by Valerie Cooksley; The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Essential Oils by Julia Lawless; The Aromatherapy Companion by Victoria Edwards; The Essential Oils Book by Colleen Dodt. Is there a good website or book that talks about how (and why) to blend certain essential oils together? What I mean is, I have used certain oils for really dry skin, and they work well. If I want to blend 2 or 3 oils together, where can I find out how to know how much of each oil to use? Does that make any sense at all? ;-) Thanks again, Justine

Many times these aromatherapy novelists have taken the properties of the herb and applied it to the essential oil and this just is not the case. I have the following and use them religiously: The Aromatherapy Practitioner's Reference Manual by Sylla Sheppard-Hanger with contributing editor's Galine Lisin, Martin Watt, & David Moyler This is a very good reference book for anyone that works with essential oils. Plant Aromatics by Martin Watt Cert. Phyt New Edition 2001 In-depth referenced reports & quick reference charts covering: Skin Irritation, Skin Sensitization, Photo-sensitization, Toxicity and Other Safety Issues. Both of these books may be bought at Appalachian Valley Natural Products by contacting Butch Owens at: ButchBsi In reference to how much of each essential oil to use, the best book is Martin's. Also as a rule of thumb for my own blending I tend to use less than many people I know. My percentage is usually 1/5 to 2% of a total synergy. I mix my essential oils up in 5 or 10 ml bottles then use 2% or less in a blend that is going on the skin. I hope this helps a bit. ===== Cheryl Smith A Heavenly Body Anchorage AK 99508 (907) 222-0886 http://www.aheavenlybody.com Photos: High-quality 4x6 digital prints for 25¢ ph/print_splash
Guest guest
Thanks Cheryl--I was beginning to think that my questions were just too dumb to answer! LOL! ;-) What I was wondering is how do you know how many drops per each oil to add? Do you just do it based on the top notes, etc., or based on properties of each oil? Like if I were going to make a blend with lavender and Roman chamomille, how do I know how much of each to add? , Cheryl Smith <female_tigress> wrote: > I mix my essential oils up in 5 or 10 ml bottles > then use 2% or less in a blend that is going on > the skin. > > I hope this helps a bit. > > > > ===== > Cheryl Smith >
