Hello Jane

I think I might be able to help a little with this. There are a LOT of

" carrier oils " out in the world, and not all " Carriers " are even oils... there

is

milk, water, honey, lotion etc. Anything that helps to dilute the oils and

" carry " them into or onto the body is called a carrier.

As for oils, each has it's own unique properties. Avacado oil for instance is

chosen as it's very moisturizing for the older skin. Rose Hip oil is

wonderful for helping to heal old and new scars. Grapeseed oil is a very

lightweight

oil and is a favorite with a lot of massage therapists because it has little to

no fragrance and is claimed to be anti-oxidizing. Olive Oil, reputed to be

one of the best oils for the skin. The " Carrier Oil " you choose is usually

dependand upon the properties you would like.

There is a book out and you MIGHT be able to find it on Amazon.com (MIGHT)

written by Len Price on Carrier oils... the most extensive one out there I

believe. You may want to check into that...

As for mineral oil... some say it has a bad rap. There are people who love

the sticky icky slippy slidey stuff. I am not one of those people. It is my view

that anything that just sits on the skin and blocks up the pores is bad for

you. It has been the cause of baby acne in infants and a few babies have even

been dropped because of the stuff. It's like trying to hang onto a greased

pig... not an easy thing to do. What ever reason you think of for using mineral

oil, you can find in a " REAL " oil, petroleum based products are just awful in my

opinion.

I hope that helps.

Hello!!

I know that some oils are " carrier oils " and that some carrier oils are better

than others (scent, " heavy " or " light " , etc.), but what I don't know is which

oils do work. For instance, I know canola oil is a natural oil, but is it a

carrier oil? Will it absorb scents from essential oils? What about mineral

oil?

I know olive oil is a great carrier oil, but, as it's starting to warm up, I

find it " heavy " , and, sometimes its scent can still be " noted " (???) in the

finished product.

Is sweet almond " heavy " , is it scented, is it a " good " carrier oil? What about

coconut?

TIA for your help!! ;-)

Thanks!!

Jane

Hi Jane

Carrier oils are also called fixed oils. That is because unlike

essential oils, also sometimes called volatile oils, they do not

evaporate.

Choosing the right carrier oil can be confusing. Not all decisions

about which one to use are based on scent. The heavy and light

description also applies to the viscosity and absorption of the carrier

oil into the skin.

Sometimes carrier oils are not even oils. I use jojoba oil, which is

actually a liquid wax-like ingredient.

Hope that helps.
