Those who distill stems do so normally because they lack the labor force to clean the aromatic material. Many plants, Rosemary comes to mind right now .. will have a different chemical profile if stems are distilled. We avoid the stems in Rosemary, Cineole as it throws off the natural percentages of 1.8 cineole and camphor .. too strong a smell then.
