OT: Virus Stuff ** And ** Spam

Not sure how to escape the viruses being sent .. but rarely .. or maybe

I should say NEVER .. do they affect folks who have a virus scanner ..

and/or a good server coupled with a bit of self discipline.

 

But its not viruses that bother me .. though I get 25-30 each morning

and another dozen or so throughout the day. I get them cause I reckon

lots of folks have my e-mail address in their Address Book .. or they

have a post of mine in their In Box .. that's where the Trojans get the

addresses from which they send the viruses .. Trojans, I think are not

technically viruses .. maybe a better name is pain-in-the-butts.

 

What bothers me is the Spam .. and 75% of it not even in English. I

worked till a bit after 4 this morning .. hit the hay and got up around

10 or so .. and I had 317 posts waiting for me .. 22 were good ones ..

most were Spam. I use Mail Washer .. I Black List them and can bounce

those that come from a legitimate e-mail address. I can't bounce them

that come from fictitious addresses .. or from my own e-mail address ..

(how do they do that?) so they continue to come. It will never stop ..

methinks.

 

Spammers are idiots .. they are losers who pay for CDs containing tons

of e-mail addresses. Part of the idea of the originators (not the idiot

spammers themselves) is brand name saturation .. get the name Viagra or

an alternative out a few million times a day and folks will remember it.

But who would buy direct from some idiot that doesn't even use a real

e-mail address? How could you contact them if you were foolish enough

to want to buy their crap? And who would want to buy from someone who

refuses to take their foot out of the door .. you close it on one e-mail

address and they hit you with a different one. Or they send the same

message 5 times with a different address on each one.

 

I have concluded .. maybe wrongly .. that in addition to the idea of

brand name saturation .. which is a devious but fairly effective means

of marketing .. that Spammers continue because there are some folks out

and about who are bigger idiots than they are .. those folks will buy

the crap from time to time. When one can hit Send and spew forth more

than a 100,000 or so Spam e-mails .. it doesn't take but 1/100th of 1%

response to keep them in business.

 

Most human beings are by nature gullible critters and these folks prey

on that gullibility. Unless I am wrong .. its a very, very, very small

percentage of the human population that is responsible for the rest of

us having to tolerate the BS we receive in our In Boxes daily.
