<snipped> As someone who used to grow most of my own fruit/veg/herbs, I

know

you cannot produce natural broccoli without it having a few bugs

taking chunks and laying their eggs. Yet go into the average

supermarket and the " certified OG " broccoli is without any marks on

it - strange, I wonder why.

Hiya Martin,

I was talking to a friend of mine last night in Colorado whose family

owns a small farm and grows USDA Certified Organic crops which they sell

to some local markets in Colorado. I asked her about their broccoli in

passing, expressing to her the concerns you mention above. She said

that she most certainly understands your concern and the concerns of

anyone who is seeking organic produce and its healthful benefits. She

said that, as we know, there are many factors involved with organic

growing, but in addition to ensuring they provide the crops with the

factors they need to be healthy plants (which help them fight off

disease and insect attacks that weaker plants may be more prone to),

that they also use " beneficial bugs " and told me to pass along some links

for the folks who were curious and wanted more info on growing broccoli

organically ...

She assures me that while it isn't easy, it is quite possible, and very

rewarding too :)
