Gabriel is reflecting my understanding of US thought... that absolutes are not eos'...I know a LOT of british aromatherapists who will class the absolutes as eos'... I prefer to use the absolutes for perfumery, and the eo's for their therapeutic benefits... ie...rose absolute really does smell 'prettier' than rose otto... but I use rose otto in products for which my intent is to be healing... ditto orange blossom absolute vs Neroli... but but but.... the most powerfully healing frankincense I have ever encountered is a CO2 extracted carterii... and that's the one I ALWAYS use... it's the one that the health care professionals who purchase from us reach for, as well... one possible exception to the 'eo is more healing than absolute' rule of thumb... at one time we had a truly extraordinary steam distilled cistus, from Corsica. the producer isn't making any more... which is a shame. it was head and shoulders above any of the spanish cistus oils we have access to. the Corsican cistus SMELLED more like labdanum absolute. if I am reaching for cistus for lymphatic drainage...I'll still reach for the steam distilled... but if I want the sometimes powerful emotional effects I've seen with the Corsican... I think I would reach for the absolute... so it's not always black and white. Your source for superb Essential Oils, Aromatherapy Accessories, Information, Books and more!
