Hi Diana,

> Thanks everyone who answered my question about stoping smoking and E.O's.

From this end .. welcome you are.

> Other questions:

> 1) I want to purchase a variety of E.O.'s to sample...as pure and fresh as

possible.

Be careful what you ask for .. there is no " as pure as possible " like

there's no " as pregnant or as honest or as alive as possible. " An EO is

either pure .. or it is NOT pure. There are degrees of quality .. even

among pure EO .. but no degrees of purity. Quality can run from from

poor through mediocre to outstanding and still be pure .. no different

than two cooks taking all pure vegetables and making a soup .. one makes

an outstanding soup while the other makes one not fit to eat .. both are

made from pure ingredients.

> I'd especially like to try the ones that I haven't yet come to know, to see if

I like them.

Get samples .. little bitty samples. I think most sellers will provide

samples .. different prices, etc., for each seller. This list is setup

for folks who are sellers to give such information .. on line.

My policy .. I have buyers are in 50 states and 64 other countries, so

paying postage is sometimes their responsibility. If they make an order

they get five FREE samples with the order .. they're paying the postage

on the order anyway. If they don't make an order they can still have 5

FREE samples .. if in the USA, they pay $3.95 shipping .. if outside the

USA they pay the exact cost .. whatever it works out to be.

If they want more than 5 samples .. numbers 6 and onward are 50 cents

each. That doesn't cover the cost of the bottles and caps .. much less

the oil and the labor to pour samples .. but I have to do this because

to not do so would be unmanageable. Believe it or not .. I often get

e-mails saying things like, " Please send me a sample of all your

products. " ;-)

Keep in mind that those of us in the business have long ago learned of

the existence of Professional Sample Collectors. Its a neurosis in some

cases .. they want samples of dog food even if they don't own a dog ..

and the reason is .. because its free. ;-)

> 2) I'm an aromatherapy newbie (my own uses) and have a few fragrances I'm

mixing in my candle

> diffuser with water. Making room spray and body oils, bath products, etc.

I've ordered some

> books to teach me more and download whatever I find on line. Can't afford the

$400 plus on line class...

> so will learn a bit from the books when they come. I can't remember which ones

I ordered...so what are

> your favorite books and I'll compare what you suggest to what I get when it

arrives.

I won't comment on particulars of the best of the worst novels out and

about on AT .. except to say that the majority of them are unreferenced

continuations of previously unreferenced regurgitations from previously

unreferenced compilations of misinformation/disinformation and hype that

is fairly common in this industry.

Kurt Schnaubelt has some nice work out .. but it might not be beginner

level .. and if you see something that is a Complete Guide or Everything

You Ever Wanted To Know about this and that, count on it being neither.

None of the references will be such that you can't wait to turn the page

and will be late for work the next morning if you start reading them the

night before .. but there are a couple of basis reference publications

everyone needs in their library .. and most folks have them .. dog-eared

copies they have. These two are THE Safety Manual on scientifically

proven safe dilution for dermal application, Martin Watt's Plant

Aromatics .. the URL is below. The old edition was $75 .. I published

the new, revised edition and offer it for $44.90 .. it can be seen and

ordered at URL http://www.av-at.com/plantaromaticsavnp.html The

revised edition came out in November 2001 and is now in the Fourth

Printing. I am exclusive dealer for North and South America.

The other foundation document for AT and EO, Sylla Shepherd-Hanger's

Aromatherapy Practitioner Reference Manual, can be seen at this URL

http://www.AV-AT.com/manual01.html .. Sylla's Manual, like any other

reference publication that does not merely quote scientific studies, is

not perfect .. if she were to update it there would be a number of

changes made in minor details .. but still, its the best around and its

the ONLY one around of its type. If you have a fax machine I'd be happy

to fax you a few pages so you could get an idea of the type and manner

of presentation on traditional uses of essential oils.

> 3) Diffusers: since I live off grid here most of the time at my cabin, I use

> my candle diffuser ...may someday order one of the electric ones for when I

have

> my generator on or the week a month I'm at my city place. I've seen several

electric

> ones...so I guess I have my choice...will probably start with one under $50.

There is one might be right up your alley .. you can see it at

http://scentgarden.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=20 & osCsid=8d5ece2126\

I like the idea that it doesn't get too hot and you can use far less EO.

> Any other tips appreciated: and you are welcome to write me off list if

necessary.

I'm willing to write anybody off list .. and do it 25-30 times a day ..

but the questions you have asked are also unasked questions of maybe a

hundred of more of the 600 folks on this list. ;-)

> Thanks, Diana of Dewberry Hill

Welcome fer'shur. Y'all keep smiling. :-)
