Guest guest
Hey Wendy, > I'm actually at work ( which is rare with my two kids) and have a > pepper question? > > Does Lampong Black pepper come exclusively from Sumatra in > Indonesia or can it come from other Island is Indonsia such as Papua > New Guinea ? Lemme start by saying I don't know. ;-) Somebody might be able to tell us how it OUGHTA BE .. but to tell you how it really is might be a horse of a different color. I think that's like asking can Vidalia Onions only come from Vidalia, Georgia. Was a time the Texacans were taking the seeds to Texas and growing them .. selling them as Vidalia. A lawsuit was filed and they now must call the Texas onions .. Vidalia Type .. but no lawsuits have been filed on the Lampong Black Pepper. The most common names for Lampong Peppers is Peppercorns or Whole Black Pepper .. but Lampong is a really people and a language .. the people indigenous to Lampung province on the Sunda Strait in southern Sumatra, Indonesia are called Abung or Lampong and they speak a language called Lampong, which is a Malayo-Polynesian language written in a script similar to the Hindu alphabet. So-called Lampong Peppercorns are a Piper nigrum .. and here is what the famous Mrs. Grieve had to say about it Peppers .......... http://botanical.com/botanical/mgmh/p/pepper24.html > Thanks > wendy For whatever its worth .. welcome you are. :-) Y'all keep smiling.
