Guest guest
Hello, Kati! I can help with your animal-assisted therapy question! One of my golden retrievers and I have been a registered Pet Partners therapy team for four years now. We spent two years visiting hospice patients every week at our local hospice facility and have spent the last two years working with a bereavement support group for children who have experience the death of a parent. Animals, especially dogs, can do some very powerful things for people who are ill, elderly, or in crisis. Kudos to you for looking into it! Here's the place to go: http://www.deltasociety.org/ They operate the most comprehensive animal-assisted therapy registration program in the country. Thru Delta Society, you can receive training, testing and registration as a therapy team for you and your dog. They can also assist you in presenting animal-assisted therapy to health care facilities as an important component in the treatment of their patients. (They've got videos, brochures, etc, that you can take to facilities to explain the program.) Good luck to you! Ellen in Seattle
