Label software ... sorta on topic, I think ;-)

Hi All,

Something that has bugged me just about since forever, that I've decided

I don't want to have to work around anymore ..... perhaps someone here

can help ...

It seems that regardless of what software I use to format & print labels

for my bottles & jars, I have to manipulate the margins to get the

labels to print out totally within the dimensions of the perforations. I

use standard labels - if they're not Avery, then they match to a

particular Avery template. I use an inkjet printer ... and have always

had the same line-up problem with all my printers. I've tried using

various versions of Word, CorelDraw and a few other programs. But I

still find that when the page of labels is printed, until I've done a

few test runs to adjust the margins, that the labels don't line up properly.

So, has anyone else found that they can just put the paper in the

printer, select the Avery template from the software and get perfectly

lined-up labels first time ???? Is there a particular trick I need to

know ??

Much thanks to anyone who can help me save lots of time doing my next

round of label printing!

Hi Jane:

If your labels are exactly the same size as the Avery ones, and have the same

number of labels per sheet, use the Avery lable numbers off their boxes or pkgs.

of labels for sale. Each of their labels has a number (example: Avery label #

6870 )has 30 labels per sheet and they are in 3 rows going down each page. Each

label on the page is exactly 3/4 " X 2 1/4 " . If your sheet of labels matches

all of that, you should be good to go. I never have to measure or set up

anything on my labels. If you would like, give me the information and I'll see

if I have the Avery labels to match your size and amount via their sheet label

numbers. I hope this helps you.

Hi Jen,

That's how I expected it should work, but it just doesn't for me :-(((

Word and CorelDraw both let me choose the Avery template to match the

sheets, as you suggest - everything looks like it should work, but never

does. I don't know if it's a problem with the software, the templates or

the printer/driver. It's been a constant frustration to me, and this

year with a whole new lot of labels to format, I just want to be able to

print & go ! At the moment, the one's I'm agonising over are Avery

J8160, which are an A4 page size.

What software do you use to print from ?

At least, it's reassuring knowing that there's someone out there who has

no problems !!

Hey Jane,

Get the Avery design software. It is called

DesignPro. You can download it off the avery.com

website or buy 1 package of avery labels and

there is always a CD included.

With this I use Avery or any other software and

don't have to worry about the margins and such

unless I do a background then it does not want to

cover the very edges so I trim them off.

If you are just using a pic/logo etc with text

you won't have a problem. Doing labels in word

is a pain in the butt.

I have also used Publisher and that works pretty

well too. When I can not manipulate the label the

way I want to in DesignPro, I use MS Publisher

and that works great too.

HTH,

Cheryl

We use Print Master Gold. I only label stuff if I'm giving it as a gift, so

we haven't used it often, although I am trying to figure out how to make it so

the ink doesn't run-I know there are laminated labels out there, but, again,

without them getting professionally made, don't know.

With Print Master Gold we can get down to 6.

I downloaded DesignPro, and it seems easier to use than the Image2000 I was

using, but....it still seems to have one limitation. It seems the smallest

font size is 8pt, and I'd like something smaller. I see very small print on

a lot of labels, and I'm wondering how they get the small font size, other

than having them professionally printed. Any ideas?

Anya,

You can use smaller print than 8. Just highlight

the 8 and type in the number of the size font you

wish to use. I use a 4 font on some things on

labels.

Keisha,

Ink running is a great problem. Go to an office

supply place and buy Laminating Sheets. I was

using regular ones and after two or three weeks

the ink would run so I switched to Clear -

Heavyweight sheets and they last a long time.

Actually I have used a 4 oz bottle of massage oil

up without the ink running. Now I only massage

Paul and not every night either plus a lot goes a

long way. I think it took me about 2 1/2 months

to use that 4 oz bottle.

Take the sheet and cut out a piece slightly

bigger than the label. Make sure the bottle is

clean on the outside (no oil, cream, lotion and

as little handprints as possible). Apply your

label then the laminating sheet.

It seal pretty good too on a nice clean bottle.

Omigoodness! That worked! Thanks, Cheryl, I never would have thought of

that. Now to really start playing around to see how it all works with all

the info I need to cram on the label :-)

I'm as happy as can be with the tiny point size, but now there is one more

problem I can't solve with DesignPro. The limited color wheel doesn't have

dark green, and I need dark green. I searched the contents and help

section, and can't find how to get that green. Don't understand what the

info means that 'the color palette is not available in the standard user

interface.'

Well, if not there, where?!

Anya,

Go to Format, character and the drop down color

menu at lower right of pop up window.

Move the slide bar to the top where it says 'more

colors'. In there is a color palatte, select a

green then find the correct green on the right

vertical color bar.

Also if you buy any package of Avery's labels,

Hi Pat :

Yesterday, someone told how to make the fonts smaller on the Avery Pro Design

that you can get as a free download. I can't remember what it was exactly but

am sure I saved it to a floppy. I'll try to find it here in a little bit for

you.

If you click on the font size column and type in the number you want and then

hit enter, it works.

4 is a good one to try

To make the fonts smaller in DesignPro:

!st Way: Highlight the text you wish to change

then highlight the font size in the menu bar and

type in the font you wish to use.

2nd Way: Highlight the text you wish to change,

click on format then character and change the

font size in that box.

You can obtain DesignPro by downloading from

www.avery.com or buy a package of Avery labels

and a CD with the program comes in every package.

Aloha, Jane!

Sorry to tell you I have never had any label-making problems.

The Label Programs available now make it very easy.

Perhaps you could check you Margin settings in either the program you are using,

or in your Printer settings. Hope this helps. Aloha, Barbra
