Guest guest
Hello everyone (Chris), I am a new member of this list and a CP soapmaking nut! I have a question for everyone here. I live in Maryland and would like to get some/most of my oils locally. I've checked out some ethnic markets for such things like Palm, Coconut and Palm Kernal oils but I was wondering if there are any soapmaking suppliers here in the DC Metro Area that could provide me with this service. Does anyone else get there products locally?? I would also like information on craft shows in my area. I would like to attend some but haven't a clue where to start. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. And what about a local or bottle and essential oil supplier on the east cost that I can order from? Thanks again, Finally, where/how can I get my soap packaged and printed with my company name on the wrapping paper? SoapNut
Guest guest
Soapnut, Do a google search for wholesale carrier oils for Maryland. Hopefully these links will help you out. You might also try your local newspaper, and chamber of commerce. Also I did a google search for craft shows east coast and came up with the following: www.aristocraft.com/shows%20 & %20events/ Shows%20 & %20Events.html prairiecrafter.com/craft-shows.htm artsandcrafts.about.com/blcraftshows.htm www.craftlister.com/ http://www.craftmasternews.com/ > And what about a local or bottle and essential > oil supplier on the > east cost that I can order from? Cape Cod Bottle Company is on the East Coast http://www.oberk.com/ http://www.ebottles.com/index.asp http://www.bottlesandjars.net/ Those links should get you started. Guest guest
Hello female_tigress, In reference to your comment: è http://www.ebottles.com/index.asp I have ordered from these folks before-just a small order, mind you, cause I don't sell, and had horrible customer service. I was never informed that my order was sitting on a shelf because one of the items was back ordered, and when I called to find out the lady was very snotty to me. Also, the item that was back ordered would be out of stock for MONTHS. I can't imagine a good supplier that would not have something in stock for months, and not find some sort of substitution or remove it from the website. I just print up my labels myself, but I believe that you can get some custom packaging from Nashville Wraps http://www.nashvillewraps.com I'm not sure if they do labels and wrapper paper, but I know they do bags and such. > SoapNut *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com
Guest guest
Speaking of soaping.... I'm a relatively new soap-maker. But I think I have a handle on the actual making of the soap. My problem is that I cannot for the life of me get them out of the mold without bunging them up. Now, at this point all my soaps are used at home with a few given away to friends but I still would like to make them look a little nicer. I spray them with cooking spray, and that helps but only a little. I have tried lining them with freezer paper and wax paper and it colors the soap funny and also leaves lines. Plus you can't do that when there is a pattern on the bottom of the soap mold. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm open to anything. Guest guest
How about parchment paper? The nice thing about that is you can do oven process if your molds are wooden. Guest guest
Well, Butch is an essential oil supplier and he is in Maryland (by way of Turkey!) and he has very nice oils. As far as bottles go, there is www.sksbottle.com in NY, but I don't know of anything closer to you. Guest guest
Hi Karen! If you are using plastic sculpted molds...what I do is paint (very lightly) them with mineral oil before pouring. After pouring and insulating them overnight I put them in the freezer for a good while. Then take them out of the freezer and run hot water on the back of the mold. Be careful because they are likely to fall out. hold your hand under to catch them. If they don't pop out right away, pressing lightly on the mold while hold it upside down....seems to make them let go. For wooden soap molds, I line them with brown Kraft paper. I lay one narrow strip the long way (narrow) and another piece the width (on top of the narrow strip only crossways. You make the strips long enough to hang over the tops of the molds so that you can pull on them to get the soap out. I sometimes use scotch tape to secure the two pieces together inside the mold. That will leave a mark on the end pieces. I have not figured out how to avoid marks on the end slices. But that is the soap I use for myself and sell the perfect bars. When you pull the logs out, the paper pulls right off. I hope that this helps! Peggy www.splendidsoap.com Speaking of soaping.... I'm a relatively new soap-maker.
