Margaret and everyone, I was wondering if you have ever tried superfatting with

Virgin Coconut oil...if so, does any of the scent come through after curing.

Do you use it in cooking?

Hi Peggy,

I have read somewhere that there really isn't a " extra " virgin coconut oil,

but who knows why they call it what they do.

I've got VCO on my site for 49.95 a gallon. I think the price variations

are dependent on how much in bulk we are buying and what price we are

getting. I really couldn't sell mine for less, I'd be losing money.

They are not all the same. Some, like the type I carry has a toasted scent

to it. Probably from the gentle heating that is done to it to evaporate any

remaining moisture. Some that is centrifugally (is that a word lol) made I

think does not have the toasted scent. One type is marketed under the brand

name of Virgin Oil de coco Cream. The stuff that African shea butter

company sells is similar to mine and has that toasted scent to it, they are

both produced in Togo Africa. I personally haven't tried Tropical

Traditions but I hear it's pleasing. Some of these others are processed in

other tropical places and I am sure their methods are different and can

account for the differences.

Good luck to ya and I hope this little tidbit of info helped some.

Peggy,

I superfat with Monoi which is scented VCO at trace and the scent

comes through. It actually gets stronger as it cures.

Yes, I am still planning to do the coconut absolute co-op :-) In order to

get the best price it looks like we need to get in the 16 oz range. We hit that

and we will all be happy. I'm hoping to have everything together to start it

next week ::crossing fingers::

also, there was a member from the UK who wanted shipping information/ability

to do so. When my AOL crashed it took that information with it. If you read

this please send me your address again and I will get the quote for you.

That sounds really wonderful Bobbye. I'm glad to know that works. I still

wonder about VCO that is not scented.

Hi Peggy,

I've tried doing soap with the Virgin Coconut Oil, and while it makes a

nice soap, the scent doesn't come through :(

On that note, was someone gonna do a coconut absolute co-op? ;)

And for cooking - oh YES, it is wonderful. Makes an awesome coconut

fried shrimp (I THINK I put a recipe for that in the group's files

section under recipes) and it is wonderful to use on waffles instead of

butter and with pure maple syrup ... Now I'm hungry! *lol*

Hello plowell,

In reference to your comment:

è Does anyone else agonize over ordering like I do.

è Buying on the internet is so hard because you don't get

è to touch it and smell it and try it on and all that good

è stuff, but since I got sick, I shop mostly on-line. Peggy

Peggy,

I live in the boonies, about 5 hours from Denver, which is where I'd have to

go to get a decent price on the good stuff. YES!!!!!!!!!!! I completely

agonize over everything I buy. I haven't bought many oils and stuff yet, but I

find myself thinking " What if I don't like it? " LOL. All these what if's kill

me, but I guess my bank account is happier for it!

Bill,

I am interested in this co-op as well. At least

an ounce, of course that depends on price of it.

Hi Peggy,

I've only soaped with it in the base of the recipe. I would guess that it

wouldn't come through in superfatting since the scent is so light.

How bout some popcorn in VCO. Yummy!
