No doubt. I've never studied either.

So I could scarcely claim to have

gotten the point.

While they are systems that have historically

I did not and am not criticizing them or you

or anyone for not keeping to the way things

used to be. What on earth gave you that idea?

Calling for a clear and commonly held understanding

of the meaning of the words we use is not a

criticism of anything except the failure of

the vast majority of students and practitioners

but most stridently of educators to do the

most basic things first.

The thing that represses progress is certifying

a generation of practitioners without providing

them with the tools that they need to survive

and thrive. Words are tools, but like any

tools they are useless...or worse if you don't know

what they mean and how to use them.

Examining pulses in

I am all in favor of interpretation, innovation,

invention, creation, free expresion and free

exchange of ideas. That is precisely why the

matter of understanding langauge matters so

deeply to me.

I spend a good deal of my time and attention

working with scientists and clinicians from

a wide range of backgrounds and disciplines

addressing issues related to how traditional

Chinese medicine can be more thoroughly

interpreted, innovated upon, and made more applicable

in the contemporary environment, both in China

and around the world.

And one thing that I find most useful is

being able to exchange information in a

common language.

Shame that... because out of the 12 posts in the digest, only four were about

Hello,

I am just joining up with you. I am taking herbology and make my

own soaps and bath salts. I prefer using herbs for healing and am

trying to get some essential oils that are no longer available on

the markets (due to the fact they can be poisonous if ingetsted)

that go in poltices that my ancestors mixed and used for healing. I

hope to learn and maybe add to the group as I learn. I also do

medieval reinactment so I use my crafts in that as well... Hope that

helps! Oh yes! I am 45 and a mother of a 14 year old boy (as of

May this year that is) and have dogs, cats and a very small herb

garden which I am hoping to expand as the years go by!

Palm oil

Why palm oil? How does it compare with coconut oil?

do you really think that these people make a conscious, deliberate choice

to maintain that life style?

that it was a career goal for them?

Let's see... now that I'm out of school I think I'll become an

addict/alcoholic, betray everything I've ever believed in, put my life and

my health at total risk... yeah... great way to go!

the word " addict " indicates that one is UNABLE, not unwilling, to change.

The medical profession and the insurance companies say that it is an

illness... but you know better, it's just a matter of choice?

File - List Rules

List Rules for Oils_Herbs_Etc

1. This list is meant to be a place where learning can occur. A relaxed

atmosphere where nobody feels intimidated or afraid to express an opinion ...

but at the same time expressing an opinion should not be an expression of anger

or dislike for the messenger ... just disagreement with the message. If there is

a disagreement of a message, it would be nice if the person disagreeing told why

they disagreed instead of just outright slamming the message with no

explanation.

2. No flaming! We can agree to disagree, but we can't be nasty about it. Asking

questions for the purpose of gaining information is acceptable and desired ...

trying to give the Third Degree to other members is not.

3. This takes the flaming rule one step further. I will not tolerate folks

taking out personality problems on this list, and bucking someone they don't

like or respect. I will not have members of this list feel intimidated about

posting because they are worried about having to get into a squabble.

The inappropriate behavior mentioned in the first 3 rules is not conducive to

harmony of any list .. and especially not MY list because I intend on making

this a safe and relaxing haven for folks to discuss matters of mutual interest.

4. No " adult " topic messages. This specifically means no pornographic/sexually

explicit talk or links are to be posted here EVER! This will result in the

immediate banning of any member violating this rule. No exceptions!

5. About selling: Members are allowed to and encouraged to post ads on

Thursdays. But before any member posts an ad - whether it be for their shop, for

a sale, a fast buy or a co-op they must register the following personal

information with the list owner - name, address, phone number and e-mail

address. This information must be kept up to date! This is for the protection of

list members/consumers.

6. Please put OT in the subject line before off topic messages. This is

considered courtesy to all members of the list.

7. Please trim your posts. places a bunch of junk at the bottom of every

message, and by snipping that off in replies it makes life much more pleasant to

the list members on " daily digest " .

8. The owner of this list reserves the right to remove and/or ban anyone from

this list at any time with or without notice, especially if the rules have been

violated. I do not enjoy doing this, but if I must to keep the harmony of this

list, I will!

These rules are subject to amendments and updates as the list owner deems

necessary!

Re: Re:lifestyle choices

And the answer to your question is for the most part, A BIG FAT YES. You do not

know what is going on out there, if you really can't believe it. I didn't

realize it either until I started seeing it every day.

I see the same people over and over and over again, coming in for detox, to get

clean enough to go back out and abuse themselves. They do it until they really

can't take it anymore, come in for detox, get out of detox and start over. That

is just one very small example.

Marge, no one said it was a goal. It just is what they are doing. That's a fact.

I didn't make it up and it's not my perception. It's just the way it is. Denying

it will not make it better or make it go away.

I've shot more drugs into my arms than you have, I bet. I've watched these

people on a personal level. I got so sick and tired of being sick and tired, I

knew I had to get better. Ta Da! Here I am. I never made it a career goal. When

I was in high school, getting high at lunch and dropping speed all the time, I

wasn't thinking, hey, cool career. I just did it.

You're sarcasm about your perception of what I was saying about the subject,

isn't going to make these issues go away.

And actually, this is the definition of addict...Merriam Webster online:

Main Entry: 1ad·dict

Pronunciation: & -'dikt

Function: transitive verb

Etymology: Latin addictus, past participle of addicere to favor, from ad- +

dicere to say -- more at DICTION

1 : to devote or surrender (oneself) to something habitually or obsessively

2 : to cause addiction to a substance in

Your definition is incorrect and misleading. Not making people responsible for

who they are and what they do, only perpetuates issues. You can get free if you

want to bad enough. It all comes down to how bad do you want it?

An illness? Think about that. If it's an illness called, you're out of you're

freaking mind to stick a dirty needle in your arm! Then yes, I can agree with

that. Otherwise, no. Now they may have started out of some horrible childhood

trauma. I know I was severely abused as a child and an adult. I've been knocked

unconscious, had my nose broken, had a couple of black eyes, a wide assortment

of other physical abuses, suffered great emotional trauma, subjected my children

to it (who are BY THE GRACE OF GOD are free of that mess) as a result of my

abuse and choices and horrible, horrible insecurities. You know the kind of

insecurities where you stand in front of the mirror and call yourself ugly over

and over...or the kind where you think every single person you talk to thinks

you're stupid or ugly. Pretty sick, I'll agree with that. The shrink said I

associated love with abuse. That's pretty sick if you ask me. If they mean an

illness in that way, then I concur....BUT they can make the

choice to be free. I'm free now. I MADE THE CHOICE TO NOT BE THAT WAY ANYMORE.

If anyone wants to further discuss this with me, perhaps it's better to e-mail

me off group.
