Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Just looking for some herbal wisdom from you. My acupuncturist says not to use detox herbs b/c most of them are cooling and we are really trying to warm me right now. However, I need to detox in a big way -- we are renovating the kitchen and my eating habits, although still better than most of America, have not been up to my standards and I am feeling it. So she told me to use lemon water with honey, b/c the lemon will stimulate and the honey will nourish the liver. Well, lemons are cooling so I don't know if that is good, even though she recommends it. The detox tea I would use is Yogi tea, and here are the ingredients: Yogi Detox Tea Ingredients : OG Cinnamon Bark, Sarsaparilla Root, OG Licorice Root, Dandelion Root, OG Burdock Root, OG Ginger Root, Juniper Berry, OG black Pepper, Cardamom Seed, OG Clove Bud, Natural Sarsaparilla Flavor, Philodendron Bark, Honeysuckle Flower, Forsythia Fruit, Gardenia Flower, Scullap Root, Black Cohosh Rhizome, Coptis Rhizome, Rhubarb Root, Winter Melon, Plantago Seed. [OG-Organically Grown and processed in accordance with the California Organic Foods Act of 1990.] Now, I know dandelion and rhubarb are cooling, but most of those other herbs are warming, right? I know the obvious spicy ones are, and also burdock, any other thoughts about this? However, I need to detox in a big way perhaps you need to nourish yourself more than " detox " ? Nurture your organs and they will respond by doing their job... So she told me to use lemon water with honey, b/c the lemon will stimulate and the honey will nourish the liver. Well, lemons are cooling ..The honey is warming and that is excellent advice. Dandelion Root, -cold OG Burdock Root,-cold OG Philodendron Bark- cold, Honeysuckle Flower- cold Forsythia Fruit-cool Gardenia Flower- cold Scullap Root-cold Coptis Rhizome-cold Rhubarb Root-cold Plantago Seed-cool Now, I know dandelion and rhubarb are cooling, but most of those other herbs are warming, right? wrong I know the obvious spicy ones are, and also burdock burdock is cold, too any other thoughts about this? that tea is definitely not something you want to be taking if your acu is trying to warm you up! She must have you on a formula, right? Why not stick with that and do the lemon and honey in warm water? And continue to feed yourself good foods- like maybe a nice chicken stock with ginger... Guest guest
Hi Michele, Thanks! I have been doing the honey and lemon water frankly b/c it tastes darn good and it was a recommendation from acu who I trust. I just get obsessive sometimes, and I sure know a lot more about eos than I do about herbs, that is for sure! My sources have burdock as a warming, building herb, though, I really didn't think that one was cool. I'll find out when I go back to acupuncture today if my liver is better. I didn't drink any of the tea, and I have been eating lots of yummy chicken soup! And drinking ginger tea, too. She doesn't have me on any of her herbs right now, so lemon water it is! :-) Debbie deb Luxury for your skin, body and soul www.debrasrhapsody.com - " m morton " <greentara Wednesday, February 25, 2004 8:03 PM Re: warming detox herbs? > MessageHi Deb > >> My acupuncturist says not to use detox herbs b/c most of >them are cooling and we are really trying to warm me right >now.
