Ok, I finally located the newsletter that referred to the coconut absolute.

Here is what Christopher McMahon of White Lotus Aromatics wrote about it:

" I will also be getting a couple of absolutes that may be of interest to

you. One of them is a new one that I have long wished to have done. Recently

I began interacting with one of my colleagues in South India who does high

quality extractions. I requested him to kindly take up this work of

extracting the dried and pressed cakes of coconut to extract the essence.

One cannot easily make the absolute from the fresh or unpressed coconut

because of the high amounts of fixed oils that it contains. But one also

needs to use only that coconut which has been cold pressed and not submitted

to solvent or heat extraction as is very common in India. My colleague there

devoted himself to locate the source for the cold pressed coconut and once

he found it, made the various trial runs to produce the absolute. It is very

fine. Rich, nutty, fruity, fresh and light odor. Good tenacity and will be

wonderful for tropical blends. "

I hate to quote the prices he listed, because for all I know they may have

changed, or he may not have any of this absolute left. But it was

somewhere around $80/oz.

Hi Christy,

I, for one would be interested in getting a bit of this, but doesn't

he only sell to people with a retail license? :(

Which leads my to my next idea that maybe, someone on the list with a

retail license might want to investigate the availability of the

absolute with Christopher and offer a co-op? I'm sure enough people

would be interested...

Just an idea. I won't resort to begging yet. ;)

I just looked on the white lotus aromatics site. There is $100 minimum order

with him. I would have no qualms running this if there are enough people

interested in the coconut absolute. If people can send me ideas of what amounts

they'd be looking for I can inquire with WLA for quantities in excess of 4 oz

if we may be going in that direction to check availability. I can break it

down as small as 1/2 oz sizes is the amber boston rounds and as small as 1/4 oz

in the square amber bottles. Let me know about interest and we can move from

there.
