Guest guest
So loose herbs & foods are not controlled? how interesting. I know about the restaurant kitchen requirement and mine would never pass, which is why I have never pursued selling food items. I knew a lady that had a friend in the restaurant business and they either packaged her spices for her, or let her use the kitchen, I cant remember which. Pat but that if I wanted to repackage foods .. my folks > would need food handlers permits .. and my repackaging areas would have > to meet the same hygienic standards as would a restaurant kitchen. > > This is the technical end of that tale .. as for how much adherence to > the rules or how much enforcement is involved I know not. Guest guest
Hi Pat, > Graham, are you in GB? But .. I'll give two cents of what I have been advised in regard to the issue. I asked our County Health Department about selling Rose Petal Jam and Herbal Teas and loose wild-grown herbs. Their reply was that pre-packaged foods were not a concern .. and herbs are not considered as foods (surprise?) .. but that if I wanted to repackage foods .. my folks would need food handlers permits .. and my repackaging areas would have to meet the same hygienic standards as would a restaurant kitchen. This is the technical end of that tale .. as for how much adherence to the rules or how much enforcement is involved I know not. And I am sure there are different rules in this or that state. :-) Butch
