Guest guest
Hey Kelly, Pat .. other good folks .. > Hi Pat! > > I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be able to answer your question in > more detail and for soap, I don't know if there would be any danger (as it's > a wash-off product), and if it's an FO, I'm not sure there would be any > danger either. As for FO .. time has shown (in most cases) that they are safe .. and its a wild guess as to what is in them because the producers long ago lobbied and won the right to list their ingredients as " trade secrets " . But .. some folks with multiple chemical sensitivities do have problems with Fragrance Oils from time to time. No way you can know that if you use them .. its the buyer's responsibility. And .. I won't go further into how much the use of FO disgusts me in the second place. ;-) As for Bergamot EO .. in a wash off product like soap one would have to soak in a tub of suds for a long time to be at any risk .. but harm is not an impossibility. First, you shouldn't expect any therapeutic value aside from odor from the use of EO in ANY soap .. you are not going to gain a thing by dermal contact with a soap containing an EO. > But bergamot EO is touted to be a very strong photosensitizer Matter of proven fact this .. every time. Bergamot is perhaps the MOST photosensitizing oil in existence. A couple of ridiculous " novels " state the data is unreliable .. its those novels that are unreliable. > meaning any leave-on body products made with bergamot have the potential to > give you a very bad sunburn, to the point of second-degree burns. Its more than potential .. its a certainty. Though there is no magic time line for avoiding direct (for some folks, even indirect) sunlight after dermal application its probably safe to say 12 hours or so .. no need to gamble because it can cause a very serious burn. > Now, if I'm spouting nonsense, I certainly hope someone will correct me!!! > LOL But that's my understanding of it from what I've read. You are perzackly right. Some folks sell a FCF (furocoumarin free) Bergamot .. I don't. FCF Bergamot does NOT have the same odor or the same therapeutic properties as the whole oil .. for example, antifungal properties are lost .. probably has to do with loss of psoralens. So my position is that those who feel they can't use it safely should use the FCF. I also believe that removing chemical components from any natural product to make it safer does not make it better .. not a lot different than removing the alcohol from beer. > Oh, and Butch's website is http://www.av-at.com/ Yes'm .. and the wholesale site was updated in the last 24 hours. :-P > HTH! > Kelly Beers Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com >>I've never used FO's before, but a friend gave me some bergamot/mint >>FO & I made a small batch of CP. Can you please tell me the dangers? >>Pat
