Guest guest
Hey Pam, > on the tea tree oil - never mind - did a search and it says : > Tea tree oil is typically used at concentrations between 5-20%; however, This is not safe information .. we can find all kinds of wild crap out and about .. but this is neither safe nor accurate .. nor necessary at such a high dilution as 20%. > it can be used full strength to treat infections of the toenails. This is one of the old rumors in AT .. that Tea Tree and Lavender are safe to use neat .. but it is FALSE information .. its a continuation of the misinformation common in this industry. It can be used neat .. but there is risk of sensitization. There are MANY people who have become sensitized to these two oils .. one that I know of is on this list now. Sensitization is for life .. it does NOT go away .. and it can take us to the emergency room from time to time. Any treatment of the toenails with Tea Tree will require CONSTANT and long-term treatment and there is always a chance of sensitization with extended use of any EO. When the treatment stops .. in time the fungus returns. > Skin irritation can occur in some individuals and its use should be stopped if this happens. True .. but its an understatment .. at best. > Never take tea tree oil internally as it can result in central nervous system toxicity. True. > sooooo guess I'll throw out my water :-) .. or maybe I'll just pour it into my oil pots! Tea Tree has been proven effective .. in SOME cases .. for temporarily curtailing fungal growth in nails .. at a dilution as low as 2%. Its been tested .. but not very effectively .. on 28 folks for 21 days at a dilution of 10% and there was no dermal irritation .. hard to say if there was later sensitization as the study doesn't say there was any follow-up .. and I doubt there was. > Pam If you folks don't have THE Safety Manual .. showing the when and where and by whom scientific testing was done on safe dilution for this and that oil .. then you are playing Russian Roulette. That manual is Plant Aromatics, by Martin Watt .. the original version was $75 .. I published the Revised Version (bigger it is) in November 1991 .. its now in the Fourth Printing .. and its $43.90. You can see and order it at this URL http://www.av-at.com/plantaromaticsavnp.html I am sole source for North and South America. Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
